Due to 343’s blocking of participation in their feedback to non US or EU residents, the only way to make my voice heard is through the forums. I for one hate agent Locke he is an uninteresting character who was parachuted into a position by 343 to fix the holes they wrote themselves into, the classic hero’s fall, and Locke being MC’s fail. I have no interest in learning anything about a flat backstabbing of a character. How would Lord Hood let Locke or ONI get away with what sounds like 343 is doing in Halo 5, it makes no sense.
I would rather play as Locke in all honesty.
“ImG!11!! JENGU! U iZ nO TrU HaLo faN!!11!!!”
I love the idea of a secondary character. I love it in Halo 2 and I’ll probably like it here. I find Locke to be far more interesting than the Chief. Oh, Don’t get me wrong, I love the Chief, Who doesn’t? But I’m sorry, Johns character is so bland, That it’s hard for me to even say he’s a real character.
But now that 343 are actually fleshing him out and exploring his human side, I think we will see some much needed development from him.
But unlike the classic, Heroic Chief; Locke has distinct traits;
- He’s quick to think on his feet.- He’s confident.- Somewhat arrogant.- He started out as a Freelancer.- He’s focused.- And above all else; He’s an ONI Agent who isn’t portrayed as an complete -Yoink!- (That’s quite rare). Some players may dislike those traits, But to me, They make Locke far more interesting that what John was previously.
Couple what I just said with Micheal Colter’s superb voice acting in the recent Live Action Trailer, And you have yourself a very Happy Jengu who can’t wait to play as him and see the Chief’s Psyche from a different angle.
343i never wrote themselves any “plot holes”. Especially ones that needed Locke to fix.
Someone is bitter about Halo 5. I’m voting to keep Locke
343i is turning MC from Doomguy with one-liners into a presentable character. Which is great. One of the ways in which they are doing this is by creating a playable character with a unique position to explore Chief in a way no other current character can do. Which is also great. For that, we need two perspectives.
Also, OP, what do you mean when you say plot holes? One of 343’s strengths over Bungie is, IMO, story complexity and cohesiveness. Hell, they even fixed up some of the big ones from H3. I really can’t see why Locke is needed to fill anything in in that regard. I really don’t see what you mean about having backstabbed MC either.
In short, we’ve seen precious little of Locke’s full character. Judging from the differences between Nightfall and the H2A cutscenes/H5 trailers, he looks like he’s in for serious development. Don’t write him off just yet. Remember how everybody hated the Arbiter back in 2004?
Who are the morons who aren’t voting for both? The whole selling point of Halo 5 is discovering what both characters will be up to.

Finally finished work, sorry for the delay. You did play halo 4 and how 343 ruined any future for Cortana and del rio treat the Chief with contempt. Not to mention that dna diadict bs. Or how the diadict is a force weilder, and doesn’t kill the chief when he can etc. As for halo 5 and Locke as the op said rather than seeking to attone for their mistakes in Halo 4 they seek to further the bs reclaimer garbage.343 write that chief goes AWOL so as to have some stupid character find the him. They want Locke as the front man, it’s like making a Mario game starring Luigi and kill off mario etc, with Luigi being the star for the future.

ahem
Cortana’s future was always a ticking clock even in the books. Between the data from Alpha Halo slowing her down and the Gravemind’s mental trauma on her to simply existing in isolation for 5 years after Halo 3, she should have been dead a long time ago. And really, a character’s death is not a plot hole. Is it sad to lose a good character? Of course, but she did not die in vain and was actually happy to have saved Chief and briefly be “real” to interact with someone she cared about. Why is Del Rio treating Chief with contempt a plot hole? He wasn’t the first UNSC official to see the Spartans as a problem, Colonel Ackerson called the S-II’s freaks. And honestly, I’d be suspicious too if humanities savior who vanished 5 years ago just shows up on a random Forerunner planet. Del Rio wanted to get away from Requiem to keep the Infinity safe and warn Earth, all according to protocol I’m sure. Chief opposed him and any commanding officer being challenged by anyone of a lesser rank would be furious. Del Rio being a jerk isn’t a plot hole.
Nor does Chief explicitly have the Didact’s DNA, we do not know what the extent of the Librarian’s alterations. The Didact is not a force wielder, that is a piece of technology that allows him to manipulate gravity. For goodness sake tons of the buildings on Requiem were floating due to the same technology. You want me to believe they can build giant killer space rings with habitable ecosystems on their surface, but levitating things is too weird? The Didact doesn’t kill Chief because he doesn’t see him as a real threat (and because the game would end if he did). Were you made the Gravemind didn’t kill Chief in Halo 2 when it could as well?
Seems you don’t understand anything going on, either by taking things out of context or ignorance, to justify your hatred for a character you have barely seen in action to judge fairly.

Seriously, I’m actually really looking forward to this. We haven’t had that kind of experience since 2004 in halo 2. It’s refreshing to live it again in halo 5 but now with Locke as the Seconary protagonist you play as. Heck maybe, just maybe we’ll even play as arbiter for a mission as well.
Let’s just hope halo 5 doesn’t end up being a repeat of halo 4
Where is the option for Anonymous grunt #472572?

I’d say John is still 3 of those things. Yeah, he’s kinda bland, but because you’re supposed to ‘be’ him, it’s kinda like “eh”. And they’re fleshing him out, just not too much. His character is more subtle, which is fine with me. I’m also interested in playing as 2 characters in the campaign, like in Halo 2. The Arbiter missions were some of my favorite levels to play when I was little (not as good as Outskirts, Delta Halo, or Regret, though, those are the best and always will be).
The Arbiter
Both! So we can discover both sides of the story.
I predict you’ll choose which one you want to play as at the beginning of the game, that way they won’t have an issue with people liking one but hating the other you get to really indulge in both characters, and they can give players an extra incentive to play the game over again without double the work (a lot of it can be recycled)
Would be fun to play as arbiter too.

I always love reading your posts, they are just plain and simple truths even blunt truths.
Halo is not about agent locke halo is a game about master chief now sure two possible charecters is cool but u think halo fans are losing sight of who is the main charecter in thus game.
If you prefer locke over the chief try playing all of the halos instead of halo 4

Yes! Really want to play as Thel again.
I’m looking forward to playing both. I loved playing as arbiter in 2, so I’m hoping that this will be a bit like that
