As far as campaign goes this is my biggest question. What I really don’t want to see is just having 2-4 Chiefs running around. I’ve seen some suggestions that co-op players should play as their own spartan but what other options are there?
I think the only two realistic options out there are either everyone plays as Chief or players 2-4 play as their multiplayer spartan. Of the two I am definitely leaning more towards the multiplayer spartan/your own personal spartan but I have no strong feelings either way I guess. In terms of other options I guess they could make Blue Team come back to fill out the other spots but then that would make things tricky. You’d have to change the story/add some extra context to back up why Blue Team is there when you play co-op and why they aren’t there if you play solo. Otherwise adding Blue Team for the sake of adding Blue Team would just feel like a waste.
I would like to maybe play as your personal spartan, but that kind of puts the host in a unique position separate from the squad. Perhaps they could take the H3 route and plug in some characters from the expanded lore. Maybe the plot will help it make more sense as well.
Im personally a fan of using your multiplayer Spartan for co-op. 343 is clearly putting a lot of emphasis on customizing your Spartan so I’d say the smart money is on that being the case.
This is honestly the first I’ve heard about the “play as your own Spartan” idea but I really like it. I wonder what that would mean for cutscenes and dialogue though considering how everything is handled in-engine.
Like, imagine a scene where Chief and Cortana have an emotional reunion. Would my co-op Spartan just stand there awkwardly watching the whole thing unfold, or should your personal Spartan have some dialogue? The former is… well… awkward, but having somebody else voice your Spartan runs contrary to the personalization that 343 seems like they’re trying to push.
Master Chief clones, probably.

It could also be blue team for the sake of it just being blue team. Gameplay>Canon in every regard. It’d be cool to have each of your coop partners have a different model, and blue team would be nice to see in a game again. The problem with their implementation in Halo 5 is that they had to be there. I don’t really think they need a reason to be there at all, just a unique model for each coop partner
What about if the other 3 were Red Team though? I mean, there are 3 members in Red Team just as there are the 4 of Blue Team (Chief included). So there’s that to think about as well. I know that HW2 didn’t sell as much as they wanted it to, but Red Team is now part of the story again, so may as well make some use of them. Right?
With the introduction of the banished into the mainline game it’s possible we could see Red Team? If so make them players 2-4 though I wouldn’t definitely prefer playing as my multiplayer Spartan

Yea the math does check out. I think this would be a pretty good move so long it does tie into the story in a way that makes sense

As far as I remember, you could play as you own Spartan in Halo: Reach. YOU were basically Noble 6. It was reflected in cut scenes also I think.
Since you are Master Chief in Halo Infinite, Player 1 would remain Chief. Players 2, 3 and 4 should be your customized Spartan IMO, but 343i may decide to give us Chief clones like before. In both the cases, it’s likely its not gonna be canon. Co op has mostly not been canon, hence not reflected in cut scenes. Except for Halo 5 with Blue Team and Fireteam Osiris, Halo 3 with Arbiter I guess, and Halo CE Intro.
It would be wonderful if the co-op players could be the blue and red Elites from Halo 3’s co-op, and someone else. Oh, wait. Elites aren’t playable in Halo Infinite! So much for that idea…
MP Spartans is a good idea.
What I don’t want to see is 343 ham-fist 3 other characters in to every section of the game, just because people didn’t want to play as Chief clones.
I love having Blue Team and such accompanying me on missions, but I also like missions where you’re on your own.
I think Multi-player spartans are OK but not great. Having 3 Spartans wich are not written well in hole story like Halo 5 is not a good idea at all.
Co-op players to play as? Maybe the pilot, marine, ODST, or a customizable anonymous spartan like in Reach
Multiplayer Spartan is the best thing that co-op teammates could play as. It won’t make much sense canonically, but neither do multiple Chiefs.
maybe it could be people who havent been leaked yet
i would like to see MP spartans in co op though, with dialog and interactions in cutscenes. it would depend on the MP spartan though

Whatever they do, they need to make sure and ignore these extra players in areas that it doesn’t make sense for them to be. It would be neat if a cutscene takes place at a base and you see your co-op avatars in the background, but for other story beats Chief is clearly alone and it needs to stay that way in the cutscenes.
Johnny 118 or Craig
My moneys on S-1337.
