Who was the cruel individual who thought this weekly ultimate challenge was acceptable?

Win 3 ranked CTF games doesn’t sound that bad at first but then when you start to think about it you realise how horrendous that really is.

  1. RNG is dumb. There is no guarantee you will be put into CTF games meaning it is a constant roll of the dice just to get the mode you want let alone win it.

  2. You can’t leave ranked matches without punishment. This means you have to play EVERY game you matchmake into and can’t quit having to sit through a constant stressful slog of games.

  3. Even after all of this there is no guarantee you will win a CTF game unless you are really good or have a competent team adding more luck into the mix.

I’m genuinely baffled anyone at 343 thought this was a good idea and it is a massive kick in the privates to casual players who don’t like to go into ranked. There should honestly be 0 challenges that force you to go into ranked in my opinion and certainly not one as an ultimate that can’t even be swapped.

Pretty sure a while ago they said they didn’t want the ultimate challenge to feel like another mountain to climb and I guess that was a lie. This isn’t even mentioning how bad the ultimate rewards these past few weeks have been.

With the removal of behemoth, there is only a 2/13 chance of getting a ctf match… it’s absolutely ludicrous

As for the “not having the ultimate feel like another mountain to climb” - I remember having to win 17 matches (fortunately not tied to a mode) for the ultimate. So in that regard: when they came up with the challenge it likely was even worse.

However I fully agree that there should not be ultimates (or challenges for that matter) that can’t quite be worked towards actively. Winning matches vs just playing matches is fine by me - it’s a challenge after all. But having to play countless other matches just to get to the mode you need is a problem. Also given that CTF is also available in the BTB and Quickplay Playlists this challenge should be possible to complete there.

I kinda get the feeling that this might be a leftover of the HCS event they did during Raleigh, given that the Anaheim Tourney is currently underway. And compared to that we at least only need to play Ranked for the Ultimate, instead of every second challenge being tied to Ranked.
