From what I have found its Daniel Cudmore who plays and I would assume also voices the Master Chief

To be honest, Steve probably would’ve had his hands full while Forward Unto Dawn was being filmed… I’m sure that his hands would’ve been full of finalising voicing for Halo 4 though, who knows?

It’s just a little weird to me they didn’t get steven downes to do it, they had the opportunity because obviously he is behind a helemt.
I just find it odd they looked at this dude, and thought that he was the perfect voice and body actor for chief

Steve Downs is probably too short to be Chief. This guy is quite tall and people still complain he’s too short.

Coming from my perspective, he is probably too used to hearing Steve’s voice for the chief. But thats just from my view

They couldn’t use Downes because Chief is 20+ years younger in this.
They tried de-aging Downes’ voice at first but it just sounded silly, I believe. So they used Daniel’s voice, and I think it works. Doesn’t sound old or too young.

The easy explanation in my opinion for the voice change is simply that a persons voice changes over 25ish years
It just wouldn’t sound right to me having Steve Downes’ 45y/o chief voice on a 15/yo chief (forgive me if the ages aren’t exact, i’m just being basic)
I believe 343 has also stated that between halo CE and this there is a good amount of time, and voices change.

Nope. They take place from September to December 2552. But if you count the cutscene at the end of Halo 3 where they show the memorial, then it’s about 6 months total since that takes place in March 2553.

very possible, but in each case, that is why Chief sounds different in FUD.
Well Forward Unto Dawn takes place in 2526, John-117 is 15 years old at this point, Halo 1 takes place in 2552, so yes, I believe his voice would change… as he would be 41 at the time Halo 1 began.
He is really 15 here? lol that’s seems sooo young, I thought spartan III’s were the ones who were really young on the battlefield. I would of liked to see him like… 20 at least

The spartan 2s were deployed from around age 13 or 14 weren’t they? Just not against the covenant. The S2s were described as being larger and more badass than even the odst’s at the time.
