Who the hell are they?

Major issue I had with the recent multiplayer cinematic.

Aside from the Chief, and maybe one other Spartan named Naomi, there were no Spartans present on Earth during the covenants invasion during Halo 3. Was excited at first to see how London looked in the Halo universe and then got exited to see the drop pods, ODSTs are a fan fave and was looking forward to seeing them kick some -Yoink-. Then…the Spartans got out of the pods…wearing Mark VII armour that…didn’t even exist during that time.

Who are these Spartans? Has 343 just completely disregarded lore entirely at this point? Originally chief was meant to be the only Spartan on Earth at that time (Blue Team had already departed for Onyx) but then the Karen Travis novels introduced Naomi who supposedly was also on Earth. I feel as though with every lore change they deminish the Chief and his (and the player’s) accomplishments.

So you are assuming the cinematic was based on events that happened around halo 3? Reasonable assumption since it seems we are led to believe that it is something of a flashback for Commander Agryna.

It must have been. Halo 2 made it very clear that during Regret’s invasion, the only place they decided to land was in Kenya, specifically in New Mombasa. Therefore the only possible time the Covenant could have deployed forces in London was during Truth’s invasion in Halo 3.

We are already talking about it come join us

And here’s imons thread

They definitely look like the “halo 3” brutes.

I am huge with lore however a hype cinematic doesn’t matter if it breaks it in my opinion.

Those Spartans?
They were da boiz of course. Who else?

It’s conceivable that it was Black Team, we don’t really know where they were during the events of 2 and 3, but it’s highly likely they were on Earth. It’s probably just another unfortunate case of artistic license to attempt not to confuse people (not that I think people would be), just like Halo 4’s opening scene. Maybe they were even III’s, though I find that less likely.

Hiddenxperia actually provided a good theory, and that is that the present takes place after Halo Infinite’s main story, and that the Banished, at some point, invaded London. I would hazard a guess that Cortana’s “deletion” since the UNSC defeat, the Banished had a opportunity to invade Created, now that they were leaderless. It would explain why the Created are less of a threat, despite most likely fighting at Zeta during the 2559 conflict: Cortana’s disappearance may have shaken up the command structure.

This right here^

I feel like 343 has a very bad knack for this.
