“Hints of what’s to come: Death, disfigurement, betrayal and… oh, I’ve said too much already (and that’s just the humans I’m talking about)!”
Considering the above and Doctor Halsey’s mentioning of Jul already knowing everything about her mission, one must wonder who gave him such information? Glassman couldn’t have known a lot considering he was taken within seconds of touching the teleportation object and Halsey didn’t arrive until sometime after that. Someone on board must be giving them information somehow.
I wonder if maybe the Engineers are giving them information. They haven’t been mentioned or shown yet but if the books are any indication there should be some on board and since they are Forerunner related, something about Requiem may have affected them somehow. Or maybe the Didact or some Requiem AI called out to them and they listened? Just a theory.
Well, Jul could watch her using the artifact, he’s heard everything said near it. Glassman definitely isn’t the traitor, he locked Jul away from the Librarian. Halsey’s looking like a likely candidate.
> > True he could see her but as she said she never openly gave him anything. He was actually guiding her based on information he already knew.
>
> She never told him anything, but she told someone else something which he overheard. She doesn’t know he was watching her.
That wouldn’t count her as a traitor either nor would the engineers since they aren’t on any side though it isn’t in their nature to do something of the sort.

I’m not saying she’s a traitor because of that, just that that’s how Jul knows about her.
Jul might also be the traitor. His real motives might be revealed to the rest of the Sangheili, and Gek becomes the new leader.
The Spartans of Switchback will be the traitors. Spartans captured near where the Covenant are digging up weird alien artifacts? That’s bad news, especially since the scientists of Gargarin disappeared.
My guess is something happens to them all that makes them go turn coat, leading them to assault the Infinity (The scene in the preview showed Palmer and marines fighting of a force) from the inside out by letting the bad guys in. Then we would actually get to face enemy Spartans outside of multiplayer. Fighting and killing actual humans. Huh.
That or Murphy. Though I hope that isn’t the case; I like that guy.
Murphy is a refreshing character and getting to ride around in a Phantom, who does not enjoy that?
I would say it is someone we likely know well and have seen a few times, and not someone new to the story for the most part. I dont think it is Halsey myself, I dont feel what she has done truly is betrayal.
She has always been a honest and sincere person about her feelings I dont feel that has changed, I dont see her betraying the UNSC or Spartans, regardless of how badly they have treated her.
Also does not seem to be Glassman, he was nearly killed after giving Jul the finger and making a escape that he would not have survived if it was not for luck and Thorne.
At this point, I would not rule out Del Rio, even though I would think he would be more honorable. I do not think Del Rio is necessarily a bad person or Captain, he was afraid I believe, and he knew he did not stand up to the legendary S-117 regardless of his rank.
I believe the traitor is someone obvious, it is a Human for sure since bsangel said, this is just on the Human side of things, we just need to eliminate the most likely candidates and the ones who have alibis :P.
We know it is not Lasky, and most likely not Palmer, I can not see her ever betraying Lasky or the UNSC/Spartan’s shes to hardcore and honorable. Halsey seems unlikely as well, she seems as confused as them about the situation. Halsey is a good woman, and trustworthy even though she should not be treated like a criminal, but it adds more depth to her character to see her still so strong.
Doubtful it is Thorne, he has a battle wound, and may recieve even more battle wounds if he fights Gek, Gek seems brutal and stronger than the other Elites, perhaps stronger than Jul, and Thorne lacks shields and has to protect Glassman as well.
We are left with the possibility that the Infinity itself is the traitor, it is communicating through the Artifact, and the Artifact is communicating with it as well, so we must consider that even though the Infinity is not Human. I am not sure if it is a member of Majestic, they all seem honorable enough, even if there team leader needs to grow up a bit more.
It has to be Fireteam Switchback. Somehow they must have been brainwashed by Forerunner tech(longshot guess). Stockpiles of stolen UNSC equipment and nuclear warheads obtained by Covies, paired with the fact that their IFF tags were wiped and no bodies were found… Smells really fishy to me.

Or they might be part of some crazy ONI operation to take down Infinity.
If ONI was involved that would be a hell of a twist, I do think it would be interesting to fight enemy Spartans and such and add more variety to the sandbox through new enemies. You get a taste of how awesome it would be on Shutdown and Composer if you choose to kill a Marine or Spartan.
People who are saying it could be the elites ni any case; death, disfigurement or betrayal, reread the quote. It clearly states that is only on the HUMAN side
My personal opinion/experience is when a good writer(s) creates a plot with a traitor/spy they want to surprise the reader/viewer with who it is. They don’t want it to be obvious. They want you to be shocked. They will lay “false” clues that seem to indicate others to divert your attention from the real traitor. I think making Halsey the traitor would be too obvious. It’s too easy. Even the Episode 7 trailer doesn’t show any proof that Halsey is the traitor. Halsey talking to Jul without any context does not prove anything. Based on this line of thinking, I have a theory on the traitor that is probably wrong, but would be a surprising twist. The traitor is Palmer.
Here are the possible clues (flimsy ones):
Talking about her selection to the S-IV program, Palmer’s bio reads, “…her unquestioned loyalty to the UNSC despite an upbringing by two embittered colonial parents,…” That sounds like here parents were Colonial Rebels or at least sympathizers. Why is Palmer so “unquestionably” loyal if she was raised by them, and why even mention her loyalty unless the writers wanted to surprise us by flipping it? Maybe she joined the UNSC to not only kill some Covenant, but to get back at the UNSC, and has just been waiting for her best chance. The story would have to be she doesn’t really care about helping Jul so much as getting back at the UNSC for whatever caused her family to be “embittered”.
Why does she hate Halsey so much? It has always seemed a little over the top to me. I would understand dislike her for being a war criminal, but she genuinely seems to hate Halsey. She also doesn’t want her touching anything. Maybe she is afraid Halsey will figure her out? Maybe the reason her parents were so embittered is because they blamed the UNSC for the death of a child who was actually conscripted into the S-II program. Now Palmer knows what really happened to her sibling. That would be a good reason for hating Halsey.
When Glassman is transported by the artifact, Palmer stops Lasky from trying to pull Glassman back. Did she know what was happening to Glassman? Maybe she wanted Glassman sent to Jul, but not Lasky. This “clue” is very flimsy and being viewed in a very negative light. It could obviously be viewed differently.
This is my current, favorite theory. It would be a very surprising twist, but I admit it is also unlikely.
