What do you guys think? The demo points to it being Escharum, but everything else hints at Cortana. Could they be allied together? Is Cortana “the Harbinger” that Escharum mentioned? Or could we be in for a 3 way fight between humans, the Banished, and the created? What do you guys think?
My theory is that Cortana (from halo 5) is either being controlled or is an image used by the Harbinger. Who the Harbinger is, I don’t know, maybe a gravemind, maybe the Didact, or maybe something completely new. And it is hinted that the Harbinger does ally with the Banished. I’m predicting a fight between chief and Escharum at some point in Halo Infinite, but I doubt the Banished or the Harbinger will be completely stopped
I think the Harbinger will be Banished or Keepers of the One Freedom related based on the quote from the gameplay trailer. Definitely not Created as they aren’t on the same side as the Banished.
They’re definitely setting up Escharum as a Tartarus type figure. Atriox could even make an appearance.
I think we will definitely fight Escharum at some point. Defeating him would set up a nice rivalry between the cheif and Atriox. And potentially set up an awesome team up between Red and Blue teams! Which I think would be sick. I’m low key hoping to see the gravemind at some point. The flood,
that would shake up the line between friend and enemy real quick haha
It’s far too early for the Flood to have a major re-appearance. I could perhaps see a desperate faction of the Banished threatening to release the Flood after Chief has done some series damage to their forces, but at most it’d be a brief tease if anything. If Infinite is meant to be a starting point for new fans while being a spiritual reboot of the story, having Banished, Created (whose exact form and presence is still TBA) and Flood might be overkill for people just tuning in.

Entirely agree. Given the game’s expected 10 year lifespan plenty of opportunity to bring new elements in

I love this theory, I could’nt bear to see Cortana be evil. At the end of Halo 5, I was hoping to see an ennemi reveal himself and say he controll Cortana since the begining

I like the idea of the flood release as a weapon. It would be a new way to introduce them. After the banished defeated, they could be able to release them on the Halo by revenge
I have a theory based on nothing. The Harbinger is Mendicant Bias and hes “Allied” with the banished to trick them into releasing the flood at the end of the base game or in a DLC

Yeah Halo 5s story had a lot potential, just was cut off too soon. Almost seemed halo 5 was like Deathly hallows part 1 or mockingjay part 1. But I definitely think there is much more to cortana than just her being back alive and evil.
I doubt the Harbinger is banished or actually cortana, I think those would be too obvious. My guess is the Harbinger is either forerunner or precursor. Could be the Didact, could be the gravemind, or could be something entirely new. But excited to find out! And I think the Harbinger will turn out to be what’s really behind evil Cortana.

I like that theory too! The gameplay trailer briefly hinted at Mendicant Bias making an appearance. I also wonder if “the auditorium” is actually the palace of pain

I see no reason that Mendicant Bias would want to release the Flood nor do I doubt they are even still alive and/or functioning after the events of Halo 3. And

Your comment cut off at “And”
Also, I did say it was based on nothing lol
i believe the inside infinite february post mentioned the story being chief being “reawakened” to deal with the banished and cortana so we are probably looking at those 2 for the main story i also wonder if the monitor of 07 and any sentinels could appear in the game
I think the good thing with most of the past halo stories isn’t that there is any one clear cut villain, we have gotten villains in the forms of Atriox, The Prophet’s, Tartarus, and the grave mind but in just as many of the releases we were simply faced with the “war machine” so to speak, the ambiguous arm of a faction or factions, I think the introduction of a focal point within these factions is key to giving us insight into the minds of the Faction we are facing but I have also noticed that hyper focusing on the proposed “Villain” can take away from the story. Escharum is a big dude but I think he is just a means to an end, a higher up in the banished but replaceable, the idea that we are gonna square off against Atriox is way out of my realm of belief at the moment, in Fact I am glad we aren’t, I would love a future Halo title where we see ourselves playing Jerome to take on Atriox as they have something of background. I ultimately think though getting back to the main villain point I simply think it will be the Banished as a faction, various members of the organization, and possibly some of the “created” or artificial intelligences aligned with Cortana.
I would think they would use the Harbinger [aka cortana maybe] to their advantage and when she dies or deactivates or whatever, they use the infos against chief
I think it’s Escharum, with Cortana taking the Forerunner/Flood/third-party faction role. It is unlikely that the Banished would ally with the Created, as they are can’t be allies: while Cortana did want unity, it was more of her on top. That goes against what Banished Jiralhanae want, as they still want free will (even if that means “might is right” mentality) and not be slaves like their years in the Covenant.
Escharum probably, I can’t see the Created being the main villain of Infinite’s current story, but I’m sure they will be more of a villain later on in the story.

Maybe we finish Escarum in some mission and everything seems like a happy end. But then we hear that Atriox came on zeta halo…
Seems like everyone is forgetting that Atriox is the boss here. He propably won’t die in halo infinite main campaign yet. Maybe a thing for another halo…

Yeah. Definitely think Escharum will be defeated. But doubt they’ll kill off atriox in Infinite.
