Who is FERO?

So FERO has spoken, and seems very determined for the true origins of the Spartan II program to be made public; even in the face of what is brewing in deep space which seems to threatening everything. But who is FERO? This is my list of potential suspects with pro’s and con’s as to why they are/aren’t

Halsey - seems to be the favorite at the moment. Certainly has grievances with ONI, knows everything about the Spartans and certainly has the ability to bypass security measures and access pretty much everything. But why would she want to risk her Spartans being turned on by making it public? She knows how they are regarded in the military, especially in the early days. Would she want to risk seeing that animosity spread?

Cortana - yes, I know she’s been confirmed dead in multiple sources but she has the knowledge and ability of Halsey. Plus, is it beyond the realms of possibility that part of her survived the destruction of Didacts ship? ONI would have definitely salvaged every last piece for study. Has Cortana broken out? And whilst admittedly she would be quite broken, what does she gain?

Osman - definitely holds a grudge against the Spartan program, can get the details out and pin it all on Halsey and previous administration. If it was revealed that she was a Spartan, she can play the sympathy card as she “washed out”. May not be able to do the hacking herself but would know people who can.

Petra - She wanted the Master Chief story really bad, was pretty angry when Ben got it but suddenly wanted to pull out when it got too much? Doesn’t sound like the Petra who would walk into an Elite bar and shoot one of them to command respect. Definitely has contacts who can hack (Mshak anyone?) But why would she want the story out without getting the credit? Possible insurrectionist sympathizer?

Mshak - he can’t be got hold of shortly before FERO makes “her” appearance? He has access to pretty much all the un-secure chatter, he knows what’s brewing in deep space, not beyond the realms of possibility he’s stumbled on the Spartan II a while back. He also knows he has zero credibility so when he found out Ben is doing a piece for ONI on the MasterChief, he seized his chance. Not sure what he gets out it though.

Relative of a Spartan - we know there is at least one relative who knows what happened, could it be them or possibly another? They would likely want to see ONI fall hard for what they did and may have contacts to bypass security and get into ONI. But why not just release the data themselves? Why use Ben?

Isla Zane - on here purely because a) she’s female, b) holds a grudge against ONI and with the insurrection and c) insane

Someone else entirely - no idea who, new character to come in ready for Halo 5

Who’s your money on?

Maybe she’s a clone that survived.

Think the same!

I’m betting that Fero and Mshak are both characters created by Zane. Mshak especially is too much of a stereotype - le crazy lolsorandom hacker who can magically crack the most secure systems in existence on a whim. Either 343 have utterly incompetent writers, or he’s as fictional in Halo’s universe as he is in ours.

Why exactly are people not on the halsey train anymore?

I think it’s Ilsa Zane. If not her then someone entirely new. Doubt its Cortana or Halsey.

I’m still holding out for Cortana, but she’d be doing this in a way that wouldn’t hurt the Chief… at least, I hope that would be the case.

But in all likelihood, it’s Isla.

I was thinking today maybe its anders the spirit of fire was reintroduced in escalation she was a protege of halsey probably has the capability to hack as well as halsey maybe she is pissed at oni and the unsc for abandoning the spirit of fire and its crew

Ooh I love that one

I would like to think that the introduction of Ilsa Zane and the fact that she was rescued in the end means that she will play some role in future Halo media, or present Halo media.

While I was never fully on the Halsey train in the first place I can other speculation as to why people are less sure of it, the voice during later episodes didn’t sound like Halsey. It sounded a bit young to me.

I’m going with a relative of a Spartan. At least two parents (that we know of) took to darker paths. I don’t see why others couldn’t have done too. Might even make it interesting for Halo 5 if one of blue team finds out one of their parents has become the very thing they were trained to kill.

I doubt it’s Halsey because she was one of the key players in choosing children as she stated at the beginning of Halo 4. It can’t be her. Although i would love it if it was. I don’t know who it is. Probably someone we haven’t met yet. Cortana would be aweome but I suspect that she won’t come back until Cheif can save her.

Marine Lieutenant Parisa perhaps? Although it’s probably Isla Zane from what I’ve heard, still need to get caught up on lore.

I really hope Parisa shows up at some point, so John will deliver on his promise.

What if… Linda/Kelly working with Chief??

Aren’t they already confirmed to be part of Chief’s squad in H5: G? There’s that wallpaper showing his and Locke’s squad (rumored to be Buck and Romeo from H3 ODST) too.

Well, now we know - kinda - who Fero is. http://www.halopedia.org/Maya_Sankar
