Who is copying who?

So many people on these forums and everywhere complain about the modernization of halo (and for good reason) The term modernization basically falls into making a game more like Call of Duty and this is apparent in Halo 5. However, COD Infinite Warfare has a whole lot of striking similarities to Halo…and seriously, some things are nearly identical. I find it ironic that Halo is dying because it’s losing its identity to the COD style, while COD is copying halo left and right. Plus, all of these similarities are in Infinite Warfare, no other COD game. What are your opinions? Here is a Video about all of them since I couldn’t find an Imgur image

-Yoink!-, I am getting sick and tired of this topic. Going to paste one of my responses to a similar thread here.

Not terribly much variation within that group. - Mantis: giant mecha/walkers have been a thing in sci-fi since who knows when. The AT-ST from Star Wars. Metal Gears from the Metal Gear franchise. BattleMechs from MechWarrior. Jaegers from Pacific Rim. At least 50% of every science fiction anime ever (Macross, Gundam, Code Geass, etc.). - Jorge: “Oh, the stance and colors are the same, therefore it must be Jorge” That’s a horrible argument. Practical looking powered armor can only be designed so many ways.I believe it was stated that the concept art was directly inspired by Reach and was meant to be a reference.

I don’t see anyone starting -Yoink- about how Halo took ideas from the massive pool of common sci-fi tropes.

The Art seems to be a copy to be honest. And the whole model looks like it is Jorge.

I honestly don’t care. Games have been ripping off or heck maybe by even by strange coincidence using the same ideas. As long as it makes sense and makes the game play good why does it really matter? To me Halo doesn’t have a set game play or mechanics seeing how every Halo has changed stuff. Some have been good and some have been bad. But these changes came at a cost as gamers get lazier and lazier. They don’t want to take the time to learn new game play. If they aren’t good right away they move on. I feel Halo does need to pick a set of mechanics and stick with it.

Usually I am skeptical when people accuses copying, but I feel like this was not entirely coincidental.

Halo is not dying because of similarities it might have with COD. I don’t play COD so I am not concerned with who is “copying who”. Nowadays there is near impossible to be completely unique. Everything and everyone is influenced by each other, and there’s nothing wrong with that.

Halo is not dying. It will be around for many years to come. I have been a part of this community since Halo Reach right before 343i took over. There have been people saying Halo is dead even back then, and it is still around.

I’ve seen only one thread on here about thise topic. And yes I’m aware that Halo uses a whole hell of a lot of Sci-if tropes.

Halo is definitely dying, sales are at an all time low, less people are interested in it, it’s no longer in the public eye. If it isn’t dying then it already has sunk to as low as it’s going to get.

Haven’t clicked the link yet. Did he show this yet or no?

There have been at least 10-20 threads on these topics within the past 2-3 weeks. They just get locked and fall into obscurity.

That’s the only imgur image I could find and it’s only one of the similarities, the link compiles all of them in a video

Not that exact image, but it was touched upon in the video he linked.

Hey OP, we generally try and steer clear of comparison threads here as they tend to degrade fairly quickly. Each game has its own unique qualities that players enjoy and I’m sure both will be successful in their own way. We don’t want things to turn into developer bashing, which almost always happens with topics like these. Thanks for understanding
