…we didn’t partake in the specialisations thingy majig that we didn’t get. I had to buy the code from the pre-orders off of Ebay for £5, so since I didn’t take part in that promotion, they have no right to take away my map pack. Anyone else in the UK got the same situation?

EU had to buy the codes or get them when they pre-ordered the game or bought the limited edition.
They do have a right to take away your map pack… especially because Europe was never part of the original specialization promotion in the first place. Many retailers had it up as a pre-order bonus and nowhere else in the world did.
I’m not saying the handled this whole map pack thing right, in fact I’m still convinced it was an internal error that turned in to a cover up, but I’m not sure why you feel so entitled to get it free just because you couldn’t participate in the specialization promo.

Sadly, they have every right to take away your map pack, as well as mine (downloaded for free here in the U.S.) Yes, it was an internal error followed by a cover up, but there isn’t anything we can do about it.
Here’s the legal such and such from the XBL Terms of Service we all agreed to:

I’m also just gonna point out that this did turn into a “trade and bait” situation which, as far as I know, is illegal in the UK. Seriously though, they put it up for free. I read the whole thing before downloading and no where did it mention that it was a trial. Thats also false advertising or something like that. Basically, it’s a big screw up that they’ve pathetically tried to cover up.

OP has a point i thought this aswell since the UK didnt get the Spec Code offer then why has the UK been able to get the Maps for this “Free trial”
i can name at least 4 people off my friends list in the UK who got the maps for free after Microsoft screwed up the other day and they can call it a “Thank you, free gift, trial” nonsense as much as they want but we all know its a cover up for the fact they screwed up and are now covering there own -Yoink-…

Saying the truth it should be the opposite. You didn’t have the offer? You shouldn’t even be able to play the trial maps.
You’re not buying the maps. You’re buying a content licensed to use the maps. A content license which they can revoke for any reason at any time.

Considering there’s legal terms in XBOX TOS, posted above, there’s really nothing you can do.
The BBB and any relative committees are just that. A committee. They really don’t do anything other than rank businesses.

Also, why can’t they take the Crimson Map Pack off of you if it was a free trial? (although a lot of people are claiming that is now a cover-up they’ve invented due to a technical error with it’s release).

i believe hes talking about the Early access offer provided by Microsoft for simply playing the game, that offer was not giving to the UK
I’d be inclined to seek some sorta legal advice, trading standards or whatever, simply cos this is BLATANT BULL!! They screwed up and instead of making it right, they’re throwing lies in our faces. It was advertised free, people downloaded it free, but to let people keep that free map pack would infuriate every other poor gamer who actually paid. It’d cost MS a BUNDLE, so instead they’re pulling this rubbish. If anybody has some sound advice on how to proceed on this share it with the community. As it stands now, I’m getting away from MS as soon as I can.

That’s because retailers - such as Game, as the user stated above - had early access codes as a pre-order bonus even with the standard edition, whereas many other retailers and regions only had armor/weapon skins.

That basically says it all right there. You agreed to all of these Terms and Conditions upon signing up for Xbox Live… so unfortunately, they have every right to disable the content, and a Better Business Bureau or trading commission won’t be able to give you any assistance when you agreed to the policy from the beginning.
