I think that possibly that the Precursors are behind the entire enemy, probably controlling him. Do you think this might be true?
Been my thought since the beginning.
I’ve come up with multiple theories surrounding their influence on the recent events… and some are looking pretty promising.

i’d be interested to hear them, i too would like to see the precursors.
Well I don’t think 343i would just make them up for nothing.

was it 343 that created the precursors?

And there are some others floating around in this thread. I agree with the OP and offered some alternate or more descriptive theories.
Basically, something happened millions of years ago that caused something to go wrong with the Precursors. Now they’re a threat to the Universe, and have been causing all kinds of problems for us in the Milky Way, including splitting us apart to make it easier to destroy us.

Yep. I’m pretty sure they weren’t mentioned before 343i took over the Forerunner story with Halo: Cryptum.

bungie created them and introduced them in the halo 3 terminals. 343 with the help of Greg Bear went and dug deeper into them.

They did? I don’t recall the Precursors being mentioned in the terminals.
The Primordial perhaps, but I don’t remember the Precursors themselves.
The terminals did introduce the Didact and Librarian, extremely important characters in the upcoming and recent Forerunner lore.

The Precursors were introduced in the Beastarium that was included with the Halo Limited and Legendary Editions.

Im not entirely convinced by what Ive read that the precursors are indeed the ancient evil…well not at least in H4.
We know the didact is on requiem. we also know as far as the books tell us that he is not evil.
The covies are there too but the bad for reasons unknown yet and not ancient.
That really leaves us yes, the precursors and the Flood…
ya it may be the precursors but really… I think its…

Ah.
I thought it wasn’t the terminals, but couldn’t remember if Bungie were the ones to introduce them.
the one thing in your theory (which was a good read BTW) is the the Didact was the one who fired the halo arrays. he had to do that first then go into the cryptum

Silentium confirms that there are two Didacts

First mentioned right here. (not literally, but you know what I mean)
I wonder if we will get to see the timeless one? Or if the timeless one was actually a precursor or really a gravemind? Hopefully we will find out sometime in the next trilogy.
> I think that possibly that the Precursors are behind the entire enemy, probably controlling him. Do you think this might be true?
Silentium description confirms that the Ur-Didact was treacherously abandoned in a Flood infested system by the Master Builder. This new plot development also confirms the existence of two Didacts: the Ur-Didact and Bornstellar-Didact. If the Ur-Didact is inside that Cryptum, it is very possible that the Ur-Didact was compromised by the Flood. If he has been infected and preserved in some form, it is very possible that he is being manipulated by the Precursors - therefore justifying 343 labeling him an enemy.

I like your theories a lot. Thought I’d let you know.
OT: I strongly believe the Precursors to be the Ancient Evil.

That’s pretty interesting
