Who else really enjoys Reach the way it is?

I see a lot of hate for Reach all over the net;

  • Bloom has ruined it!?!
  • Armour Abilities are overpowered!?!
  • The DMR takes no skill to use!!

I’ve never really had an issue of any kind with it. I’ve been a Halo player since CE (absolutely hating it at the time) and yet I feel like Reach is by far the best one in the game in terms of gameplay mechanics. It feels solid, polished out and above all nice to play it’s not as floaty as previous Halo games.

The only real moan I have about the game is the campaign being very lack luster.

Sure the maps aren’t as good as it’s previous descendants but with the DLC maps being infinitely better than the ones that shipped, I’m not too bothered.

So who else feels like Reach is getting some undeserved hating? Don’t give me that -BLAM!- about how ‘bloom’ ruined the game.

SIDE NOTE:
Why are we calling it bloom? It’s clearly recoil!?!

> Why are we calling it bloom? It’s clearly recoil!?!

Point invalidated. Sorry.

I’ll leave the stat check to anyone who cares enough.

Good day sir.

Recoil would kick your aim up, bloom makes you lose accuracy in all directions.

OT: Reach isn’t so bad, but there are a few persistent niggles that are annoying.

> The DMR takes no skill to use!!

DMR isn’t that hard to use. I’ve used DMR’s in Halo: Reach a lot.

> So who else feels like Reach is getting some undeserved hating? Don’t give me that -BLAM!- about how ‘bloom’ ruined the game.

I thought 343 removed ‘bloom’ in a title update?

I also enjoy Halo: Reach as it is.

You just lost your credibility right there. Reach was supposed to be a return to CE but it is not in the same league. CE is clearly superior to Reach, which is a failed/flawed copy attempt. It defiled it’s purity with the atrocities in H2 and H3 (mostly the latter).

> and yet I feel like Reach is by far the best one in the game in terms of gameplay mechanics. It feels solid, polished out and above all nice to play it’s not as floaty as previous Halo games.

May seem like there’s less glitches, but there are a ton and although they don’t surpass H2’s glitches, most aren’t pleasant to do or aren’t worth doing. And of course, Reach is even worse because of even more stricter invisible barriers + kill barriers. Plus, campaign is mostly linear, not to mention much of it can be skipped. It’s awfully tedious.

Recoil is when the crosshair goes up. It was in the Reach beta but removed.

Bloom is similar to spread a la H1 pistol fired auto.

Reach is bad not only because of bloom. The slow movement, the low jump height, the overall slow pace of the game (in default), the mini nukes enormous blast radius and power… I could go on for hours. These are some of the reasons why this game is worse than all its predecessors.

My perfect Reach would be
110%movement.
150%gravity.
125%jump.
75% bloom.
TU-AL
An active-camo that allows 2-3 steps of full movement before becoming slightly visible. Half the time it has now, no radar jamming. Instead, a single random dot indicating the general area bleeps with each pulse on the radar. One cannot tell if the player is moving in the general area but can tell if they are moving towards an area.
Evade scaled down for the Spartans.
Other AAs stay the same.
Sword-block enabled.
Shield-popping enabled.
A 4, 5, and 6 shot Pistol, DMR and NR respectively under Vanilla ROFs. That’s 3, 4 and 5 shots to drop shields, 1 for the head.
Add a x2 scope for the AR.
And lastly, I’d make weapon size determine pull-out speed. It takes too long to draw the Pistols. I’d really like the idea of upgrading the size or niche of the weapon (which leads to either a range or power increase) to take longer than swapping out to a smaller weapon.
The shotgun should draw faster than a rifle or hammer. The Sword would be the fastest drawing weapon, but with SB, I don’t mind.

But those are just tweaks to a system I enjoy very, very much.
Reach is CE2.0 and not CE1.5 thanks to AAs. Yet the option is there to make things like CE1.5 if players wish too.

I honestly was happy with how Reach was since Release Day. I wasn’t actually for all the Title Update jargon but I accepted it since they said they were going to keep playlists with those updates separate. They haven’t of yet but thankfully it’s not every playlist. I’m one who has no problem with adapting and taking what I can get so long as it entertains me. Most people get greedy and act as if they own shares in the development company and should have say on what should be done.

The point of a video game is to be fun. Not have that fun taken away by turning it into some political fiasco.

Ever since I played the Beta…I’ve liked this game. It’s good times.
I remember wanting to cry after I couldnt play the Beta and having to wait for release.

Exactly. They said they were gonna keep them seperate. They didnt even hint that vanilla lists wouls be changing. Then they sprang the december update on us. For all i know, January could mean that vailla reach is gone. Its not the game i paid for, its not right.

Its a good game but it needs some improvements

I was 11/12 at the time, I really didn’t like the duke control and the only reason I played CE was because whenever I went round a mates that was the only game he had on the Xbox. I really started getting into Halo when 2 arrived and I had my own xbox.

And how is Reach trying to be CE? I mean I can see what 343i are doing (and failing epically) with the Anniversary playlists by trying to make it seem like a 10 year old game, but like most things it had to move with the times. The player won’t keep playing unless they have an incentive, queue the armour customisation. The player won’t keep playing unless there is a way to mix things up a little, queue armour abilities.

Reach has always been it’s own game, I’ve never really felt like it was in the same league as 2 & 3 but it held it’s ground.

You seem to just be a CE purist, if your pistol doesn’t kill someone with 4 shots then it’s clearly awful right? How can you say that the other games were awful? H2 was incredible as was H3 in terms of gameplay and map design. You have to move on with the times yet still have that shiny lovely familiar finish in order to advance and keep your fanbase, and so far Halo as a series has done a damn good job of it!

> And how is Reach trying to be CE?

Return of:

-scoped pistol with spread
-plasma rifle with spread
-less accurate assault rifle
-small jump height
-powerful plasma pistol bolts
-vehicle health
-marines with weak health

Plus, Bungie said they were returning to CE with Reach.

CE purist?! I’m not a multiplayer person. I’m a campaign glitcher and strategist.

I’ll have you know I’ve played CE, H2, and H3 extensively, for hours until end, and also Reach, and the former have given me more pleasure than any minute I have spent with Reach.

Yup, Reach straight from the tin was good enough imo.

The only reason ppl moan so much, is because they can, & have nothing better to do. Besides, I wouldn’t worry about it too much… most of the ppl who play Reach are fine with it. It’s just the minority that moan about it

Reach is still the best game ever made IMO.

Complaints on how 343i has messed with the playlists a little too much the reason I keep coming back to Reach is because Bungie made the best damn Halo game ever. And if you don’t like it, simply Don’t play it.

I agree with your opinion. What separates us from most of the haters is we know it’s an opinion, not a fact. As they choose to believe they are the ones who should be solely catered too.

The game has to appeal to EVERYONE on a certain level.

Let the haters go on with their endless rants and constant repetitive complaints. In the end, it turns out to be a teetering more or lesse 50/50 scale. The haters/whiners STILL play the game they’re complaining about and the true loyalists tough it out in hopes that maybe the next game will appeal more to them.

Otherwise, let it just be a game. The constant nitpicking of percentages and “gimmicks” is getting old and falls right under the banner of “You can’t always get what you want. Deal with it.”

Oh well from a campaign point of view Reach is utter garbage, but everything else wise I reckon they did pretty damn well at.

Apart from Forge, the only difference between H3 Forge and Reach’s one is that you can fix and phase stuff. I want me some weather and geometry changing tools -Yoink!- it!

I completely agree. Except for the recoil part. Its called bloom, not recoil, recoil is different.
