Chief is definitely a traitor if he goes off on his own. I mean that would make him a traitor by definition. He’ll still be the good guy, just saying he’s by definition, a traitor.

None of the above. If the game features any real traitors they’ll be corrupt ONI agents (not including Locke).

That would make him a deserter, not a traitor. A traitor commits willful destructive action against his or her government. Simply going AWOL is not treason.

ONI have shown a complete disregard for laws and democracy. They most likely have an agenda that does not fit with the UEG. Many people are thinking that ONI are the enemy and that Locke is an ill informed hit an for Osman and her ‘Evil’ Predecessor, they let Reach fall, to facilitate the capture of a covenant vessel in operation red Flag, heck if a corvette was capture in Halo reach why didn’t the UNSC steal data about High Charity. The idea that ONI are behind the disappearing colonies, (disappearing colonies sounds an awful lot like Mass Effect) sounds like something that they would do. Lord Hood would not let the Chief be murdered by an ONI hit squad if he knew. Sounds like ONI are trying to damage the Chiefs image to suit their hidden agenda. In a Halo escalation comic, they have Master Chief action figures. They way Locke goads about having finally brought down the master chief in the Hunt the Truth live action sounds like he is ill informed. In the alternate trailer Cheif declares that was everything Locke compromised worth it. The professionalism Locke showed disregard for, fits ONI perfectly in the evil villain role similar to Cerberus. Kilo V shows ONI allowed Jul to gain his position. ALl the evidence seems to suggest ONI have dirty hands whatever the storyline.
I say UNSC because I can’t see a spartan II deserting without great reason, and with his skill set, they should try to bring him back alive, which it doesn’t seem like Locke cares about. Though maybe that’s more ONI than UNSC
Probably Halsey trying to recruit John to fight against Oni for what they did to her in Spartan Ops.
