Who Could "Them" Be?

Okay, so for anyone who wasn’t paying attention to the trailer, there was a moment after the pelican seemed to be attacked where the pilot said the following line: “No! Not Them! Not again!”
This line intrigues me, and I just wanted to see what others thought about this, as I have a few theories as to who exactly “Them” is:

  • Prometheans/Guardians - The Flood - Something entirely different.

A combined arms force of Ex-Covenant races and Prometheans, maybe? That’s what I’ve been theorizing.

It won’t be Flood, because the trailer is at the start of the game, and they wouldn’t bring back the Flood in the first mission. It’ll either be some form of Covenant that worship Cortana as Jul’s Covenant did the Didact, or Prometheans.

If they want Halo Infinite to have a familiar feel to fans, and have a strong emotional/nostalgic connection right out of the gate (which is what the trailers indicate), I’d go with the Covenant type group.

I assumed it was Prometheans/Guardians.

I would hope it’s not the Flood because if the trailer is the beginning of the game, and I heard it was, I don’t want the Flood to be introduced so quickly in the game. I’d rather their reveal happen halfway through the game or close to half way.

Very true, The flood would probably be introduced later on in the game rather than the start. I simply listed them, as, while they’re unlikely, they’re still plausible. I personally am leaning towards a new faction, as using the word “them” really makes me think we’ll be fighting something that we’ve never encountered before.

Guardians/Created controlled Promethians seems by far the most likely answer. It’s the smallest stretch to make based on where Halo 5 left everything.

Something entirely different…

The Primordials

I’d say Cortana’s combined ‘new’ Covenant but I’m not sure I believe that anymore.
Might take a bit longer to explain…

So anyway Halo 2 had 50 times the fleet than Reach (quoted), yet Reach had barely any due to possible ‘budget limitations’ given from Microsoft.

I’m actually wondering what 343i are allowed to do, what budget they have for the game so it’s possible we may in theory get something like Halo 2 in scale of a fleet but it could be less if 343i are told to spend less, which could effect the story.

I suspect it might just be 1 Guardian being guarded by a smaller fleet of the old Covenant with humans being forced to work with them since I doubt Cortana will want to move too many of her ‘Guardians’ to avoid too many uprising’s against her.

She’ll probably use less Prometheans in some places since suspect she’ll want them to feel like she’s making them feel comfortable while forcing her disillusion that what she want is what everyone wants while reminding them of the Guardians if they try anything against her.

Anyway I think allies within the ‘combined faction’ will be fragile, if the 'Halo Wars 2 ties in then this could lead a war between Cortana’s forces, Atriox due to Cortana possibly learning about the Flood from Anders and trying to investigate.

I think they got EMP’d so I’m leaning towards Pronetheans unless Cortana armed all her troops from different races with EMP technology.

I’m hoping it will be something entirely new As I feel the Prometheans just never cut it. I know they will be in the game somewhat but I definitely think it’s time for a new enemy. I also hope the banished are in Halo Infinite.
