Who at 343 doesn't know how guns work?

As you can plainly see, the SRS-99 now ejects its shells not out its side-ejector port, but straight out the end of the barrel. Can this be considered a new canon design feature, or just a really embarrassing oversight by some artist?

Artistic license. Adds to suspense. Makes things more interesting.

That’s not a shell casing. Sniper rifles rounds are discarding sabots. That’s the sabot that houses the bullet and falls off the round shortly after leaving the barrel. You are correct in pointing out there is something wrong with the sniper bullet but it is not that. It’s that the bullet does not have stabilizer fins when it should.

Artistic license does make sense, but honestly? I didn’t even notice it until the video with the slow-mo slider came out on the Tumblr page. If the intention on the artists’ part was to make it look more dramatic or interesting, they most certainly didn’t hit their target (no pun intended).

I didn’t even consider that it was a sabot round without the stabilizer fins, but you are absolutely correct. I guess that makes a bit more sense than 343 trying to pass off a barrel ejecting sniper rifle.

?! there is nothing wrong the bullet. seeing as it is coming out of a small arms rifle not a main battle tank i would not expect it to have stabilizer fins as seen on M1 Battle tank rounds.
round seen is akin to that of a 50cal BMG with a metal sabot. here is a 308 with a plastic sabot

It’s worth mentioning that in Halo, the SRS99 series fire a APFSDS round, which stands for “Armor Piercing, Fin-stabilized, Discarding Sabot” (except for the SRS99 in Reach, which fires HVAP).

It may look nothing like Blood Line’s depiction but that’s clearly a discarding sabot.

The casing in Bullet is a lot more reminiscent of this depiction from what I believe is The Art of Halo 3.
