Free-to-Play did more harm than good?
heck no! id die for a 24player ffa! hahaha.
I’d rather not have invasive microtransactions but we’re getting that either way. The real travesty is that the campaign alone is $60.
I never asked for F2P.
But neither did 8 of my friends who have never touched Halo when I’ve asked them to before, and frankly I’m loving the fact that I have a Halo group again.
Despite the predatory micro transactions and increase in Hackers, F2P’s ability to get people into the game will always be a net-positive for me personally.
honestly when they first announced it would be free to play i was dreading thinking pretty much what it is now
I hate the monetization and policies that follow FTP, but aside from a surge in cheaters FTP is probably the best thing to ever happen for Halo’s player count.
I much rather would’ve just paid a one-time fee for the freedom to customize my Spartans colours instead of going into debt looking for the colour pink.
I actually made a topic back in 2018 on why I thought the game should be free to play.
Got a lot of hate for it.
Been asked for since Halo 4 (you know, the game that was infamous for dying after 2 weeks?)
My logic with this is that 343i/MS would’ve still flooded the game with microtransactions even if it weren’t F2P, so I personally think it might as well be F2P.
I’m predicting we will initially see a larger surge of players than ever before, but it will just go back to any old Halo population. Probably a year after forge releases for all that hype to die down.
As much as I love Halo, it really seems like a niche game to the general populace.
I’m ok with f2p if it can brings new players to the game, but selling cosmetic 10€ that are programmed in 1 day it’s so abusive. And after they’re programmed, a lot are just past and copy with new colors… Even more abusive for the price.
I think the f2p hurts what halo is known for. I would of rather spent $60-$70 for multiplayer than a f2p game that’s riddled with monetization.
It’s just the business model for games you want to keep alive for development far launch. Nothing wrong with that.
The height of prices of cosmetics are a different discussion and that one is of course on fire at the moment.
I did remember asking for Free For All, maybe they misunderstood?
If is free to play at least give us the option to choose who we want to play against.
Against what platform and against what input.
They decided that they could never financially recover from their $500 million budget without a game based on macrotransactions, and also support the servers with new content for 10 years, without making a Destiny 3 f2p. Even if the game was $60, they would have to sell 10 million copies to recover their original costs to get where it currently is now, and right now it’s borderline Cyberpunk 2077. People would demand refunds.
It’s a fantastic idea with a strange execution by a team that’s never made a F2P title.
The whole reason we’re seemingly going back to scratch with these systems is because they’ve never designed F2P or battlepass systems meant to monetize a game, as opposed to just offering rewards.
Doesn’t excuse the customization though. Shouldn’t be locked up like it is.
I have no problem paying for a game providing the game is is good and mechanical sound. If a Game is way too buggy then no way will I buy it.
I knew of Infinite’s fate when I found out it would be f2p. I even made a post of it on the old Waypoint.
Honestly I think gamepass had a lot to do with their decisions. Most people wouldn’t be buying the game anyways as they’d just get gamepass to play so they opted for a battlepass like everyone else to monetize the game.
Well, no one really asked for F2P, but I don’t see why people complain about a free game. You’re saying that you would spend money, so you wouldn’t have to spend money… In my experience I am saving a little bit of money this way, because I only get Battle Passes.
