Who are those Spartans with Locke in Halo 5?

In that Halo 5 video (well, two videos) that came with H2A in the Master Chief collection, we can see 3 other Spartans with Locke. Given that it would make sense to assume that those are co-op characters, specifically made to differentiate between players, I’d hope those 3 other characters have their own backstory and personality to go with, to give players an interest, an emotional reason to want to play as them, rather than be like “Not fair, I wanna play Chief, since he’s the one with the actual story and that I’m emotionally attached to, and he’s the character that moves the story and narrative forward”. That being said, there’s a new novel coming out about Sgt. Edward Buck (From ODST and Reach) potentially joining the Spartan-IVs. Ironic how it’s coming out so close to Halo 5’s release, right?

Would be fun if both Chief and Locke each got their own team. Seems to make sense, especially since they’ve sort of built up to that in the comics (With Chief leaving on missions with Blue Team, and the extensive presence of FIreteam Majestic (Ray, Thorne, Hoya, Palmer and a few others) in the current story arch). Here’s what I hope we see. Note that Talitha makes sense, as she’s the only survivor from Halo: Nightfall, aside from Locke, and expressed interest in becoming a better soldier. Plus, she’s more open to UNSC (Well, Locke, specifically) by the end of the movie, and IIRC, Locke seems interested in having her join the Spartan program. As for our last character, if Buck joins the team, it would only make sense to include Veronica Dare, as well. The only other option would be Naomi-010, but I doubt they’d use her.

ONI Acquisition Co-Op Team:
Jameson Locke
Talitha Macer
Veronica Dare
Edward Buck

Master Chief Co-Op Team:
John-117
Fred-104
Kelly-087
Linda-058

Is there any information I’m missing that might confirm or deny this? What does everyone think we should see happen with those other Spartans?

Interesting thought. note sure who the 3 other spartans will be but they do need to be characters with some sort of backstory.

This seems like a good idea especially the part with Buck. There isn’t any info that backs you up or denies it though.

Nice list!

If there’s ever an Arbiter campaign, I hoping this will be the Swords of Sanghelios co-op team.

Thel 'Vadam
Rtas 'Vadum
N’tho ‘Sraom
Usze ‘Taham

343 Industries should really give N’tho and Usze some more backstory, though. I can’t believe they didn’t feature in the Kilo-Five trilogy.

to be fair I don’t remember 'Vadum featuring either. it put a bigger focus on M’dama and 'Telcam.

I think the green Spartan is Thorne from Spartan Ops. If you saw the Mega Bloks set with the green-visor Spartan, you’d see he uses recruit armor with an assault rifle. Thorne currently uses recruit armor and an assault rifle.
I also think Macer will be the pink Spartan.
I think one of them will be featured in later Halo: Escalation comics, as they detail the origins of a Spartan IV.
Last one? I’m not sure. Dare would be cool.

Well, it can’t be anyone from Locke’s original team since they’re all dead. Nightfall Episode 2 did hint that Macer wanted to do more than Colonial Guard, so that could lend credence to her being part of the team. The green visored Spartan’s armor was very ODST-looking, so it might be Buck.
My guess?
-Locke
-Macer
-Buck
-Thorne

Thorne is the leader of fireteam Majestic. Why would it make sense for him to suddenly abandon his team and join Locke’s?

Well, to preface, we don’t even know yet if those 3 guys/gals (it was impossible to tell their genders) will actually be in the game at all. But personally I think that if the 3 “mystery Spartans” do end up in the game, they won’t be any characters we’ve encountered before. I get the feeling they’re like the extra Elites in Halo 3 - where their only purpose is to be the avatars for people playing the campaign on co-op, and that they won’t have an active role in the story or appear in cutscenes.

I’m actually highly against blue team being in co-op… If their in co-op for playability it would mean they don’t have a lot of story focus… (imagine of we played as noble team in co-op)

Lock’s team is probably the survivors from Nightfall.

Actually, 2 members of his squad were infected and stayed behind, but lived.

Him + them + macer = 4.

Actually, the latest Canon Fodder confirmed that Gaines was KIA. Didn’t mention Hundley, though…so unless stated otherwise, maybe we can add him to the list of possible squad members.

This is actually one of the best ideas I’ve heard in a long time, but I fear your idea is too good to be true.

So it seems Halo: New Blood might be shedding some light on the feasibility, or lack thereof. IMPORTANT Spoilers from the freshly released e-novel below, read at your own risk.

It seems that Buck and Romeo are Spartan-IVs and are waiting to be transferred to a S-IV team.

I thought about the same thing OP…

The whole build-up with H4, Nightfall and the books… plus lots of evidence that Blue Team was already planned to be in H4 (artwork in H4 art book) and other hints for their appearence in H5…

Plus Timothy Logo the guy behind Republic Commando being design lead…

I just don’t get how this whole Chief going rogue would work in this case.

But if H5 is indeed more open world a squad would make a lot of sense - and wrapping up the other player characters with the fiction would be a typical thing 343i would do. If These characters are indeed in the game - I’m sure they will be KI controlled if there arn’t enough players.

I remember seeing linda-058 name come up in halo CE cryogenic control room. First mission

The following are the confirmed teams and their members:

Fireteam Osiris:
-Jameson Locke
-Edward Buck
-Holly Tanaka
-Olympia Vale

Blue Team:
-John-117
-Frederic-104
-Linda-058
-Kelly-087
