WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE AND WHY?!?!?

Why are there often people in matchmaking who aren’t … playing? It seems the older the game, the more often it happens, so Halo 3 is the worst.
I just played a match where three of the four opponents were just standing there the whole time and one guy on my team was as well.
Is there a point or reason behind this? Who just turns on their Xbox, launches Halo, joins a match, then doesn’t play?

Occasionally, one will stir to life, so I assume they had a phone call or whatever, but I’ve played several matches where I stayed in the same lobby and these folks just ride right along through several matches just serving as easy points for the enemy or myself, depending on which way it goes. Why are they doing that?

I could see them possibly doing that in Reach & Halo 4 to level up, but Halo 3?

In Halo 3? Sounds like derankers.

Exactly! What’s the point? I’m going to assume that they all just fell asleep.

EDIT: Just saw you made Community Member of the Week! Congrats!

Based off the thread title, I was hoping this was asking who the Didact and the Librarian were. I am disappointed. :frowning:

When I see those and I am in one team with them I tell them to stop boosting for the other team.
A lot of the time they start playing after I said that.
Guess it depends.
I never saw someone fall asleep while playing a video game tho :stuck_out_tongue:

I had a game of co-op campaign on The Covenant, we got to the Hornet part and three of us had died and the guy who was left alive was in the air and far enough that we couldn’t spawn in. Yeah took us 20 minutes to figure out that he had fallen asleep.
The snoring was a dead give away.

Is it bad that I came into this thread expecting something similar? Not so much the Didact and Librarian, more Del Rio and Palmer. :stuck_out_tongue:

Ha! I tricked you guys … ?

I shouldn’t be on this forum if I didn’t know about the Librarian and the Didact.

In Halo 3, people do this to derank and to create booster accounts. If you have an account that has a lot of games but is low rank, then you can use that account to boost someone else to 50 quickly, because it will look like they’re partied up with somebody terrible.

So that’s where a lot of the AFK comes from, at least in ranked games. There’s no point to it in social lists really.

Don’t complain! Just kill them over and over and over again. That’s the perfect way to get the perfection medal for the achievement! Wish that would happen to me.

I’ve fallen asleep during late-night game sessions many times. Usually not while playing Halo though… sometimes between matches maybe.
