Can we really have a Halo game without the Covenant as our enemies?
ODST and Reach showed us that the Flood were not an integral part to tell a Halo story and that the Halo universe is much bigger than just the fight with the Flood. But the Covenant have been our enemy for six games now and the driving force of the current day Halo universe. They are more than just a convient plot device to close a story loop hole. They are the antagonist.
To me, having a game without headshotting Grunts with children cheering and a spray of confetti is a Halo game that is a little less than it’s predecessors. A Halo without Elites, without Jackals, without Hunters? It just doesn’t seem right.
First of all the covenant are iconic enemies to the series and it seems pretty odd that the developers would make a game without them, although from the possible setting shown in the trailer chances are we’re going to see A LOT of flood, but who knows really? It’s supposed to be a lost forerunner planet there could be all sorts of weird machine flood hybrid crazy -Yoink- that no one would ever expect, and really what made Halo so great was the mystery of it all, like seeing the flood for the first time (HOLY -Yoink- WHERES THE -Yoinking!- SHOTGUN). Yes the covenant are great, but I think if the dev’s put the same amount of effort into designing meaningful enemy types as they did with the covenant that were totally unique and had the same level of personality it could be a really refreshing break, and it would make seeing the covenant again so much more satisfying. Plus we know that there are still covenant out there who live only for their gods or whatever they serve and despite reason they will fight to the death. I hope to god some sort of weird disease wiped out the brutes, I really didn’t like them for some reason, not even as enemies just their character, I also hoped that it redesigned the prophets, if there are any anymore?, to not have hairy -Yoink!- hanging from their faces. I personally can’t decide if I liked the annoying fly things, I always forget what they are called, but it would have been really interesting to see giant warrior versions of those things instead of brutes and instead of the armor that fell off you would shoot off their exoskeleton, more sneaky and bloodthirsty than elites.
ANYWAYS, the covenant will never go away they ARE halo, but don’t be too quick to judge new stuff, change can be good, sometimes, either way it’s inevitable.
It’s about time I come on here. The Xbox.com website describes it as ‘an ancient evil’. In addition, it says ‘Master Chief returns to confront his own destiny’, possibly implying Forerunner connection.
Ancient. We’re talking probable Forerunner or possibly even Precursor era.
Tank Forms felt like Hunters. Stalker Forms felt like melee-only Elites. Ranged Forms felt like Jackal Snipers. Transport Forms would have felt like Covie dropships.
Assuming Halo 4 will introduce new enemies, I don’t really care as long as they have characteristics or a similar caste (i.e. Elite > Hunter > Jackal > Grunt) of the Covies.
Do the covenant have a home world?
If so who’s to say the destruction of High Charity was the end of the Covenant.
There are many more prophets, who say’s there can’t be an uprising of new covenant.

Because alot of the highest Prophets are dead and the elite’s are now allies with the humans. Also a civilization like the Covenant would be able to send message’s around in space, so the whole Covenant would know. Brutes might still be a problem tough.
There is a possibility that there could be some covie loyalists led by brutes. But mabey not as strict as the old coveneant so could have some sort of new ally?

I actually meant like, they are the humans before getting devolved.
Meaning this planet avoided the extermination/purge the Forerunners did to them…
I’m thinking that the FLood will be main enemies in 4, with hints of Forerunner or Precursor towards the end, with them making their big appearance in Halo 5.

That sounds pretty reasonable, and I’d bet money on it that you’ve actually nailed it.

It would make sense. And then in 6, maybe we could see the return of the Arbiter and the Elites, and a little bit of the remanents of the Covenant.
Also, some people may say that the Flood being in the game so much could get boring, but there is so much more to do with the flood that we haven’t seen yet.
Judging from the trailer, it’s going to be a lot more grittier than the other Halo games, which I believe is great. So I’m guessing the Flood, and possibly some Forerunners.
