I love the new content but I understand not everyone likes the new armor and skins in classic Halo games. Personally I don’t care for season 8’s content at all. I have no intention of ever wearing the new Skyrim looking helmets. However, I feel like people who turn off these skins are missing out on seeing what others are wearing. Part of what makes customization fun for me is to show off and see what people want their Spartan to look like. Just wondering how many of you guys are boring and actually use this feature?
Edit: just wanted to say I know calling you guys “boring” is unfair. I’ve pretty much got my answer reading through this and I’m actually tempted to turn off skins myself. I hate season 8 and I don’t really care for the new event in Infinite either.
I wouldn’t say the people who turn off the new cosmetics are boring, it’s just a decision they choose to make. Keep in mind that some may want to turn the new cosmetics on, but have to keep them off because of their console crashing and such.
I turned them off since they started adding them. I don’t like 99% of these new skins at all, i prefer to use the default spartan model. One important reason to turn them off is that they can make the game crash very often, especially halo ce and halo 3
Strange. I’m still using the original Xbox One model and TMCC only crashes on occasion. Usually it’s on the loading screen for Halo 3. It will start to load a match and then freeze, crashing the whole console. As someone who turns off skins, what do you see? Are most Halo 3 matches full of people wearing the default Mk. VI? I’m just curious what I look like to players like you.
I have the new skins off for 3 and Reach. I’d like to have them enabled since I like some of the new stuff that they’ve added (ODST, elite, and mirage armors for 3 and everything pre-season 8 for Reach), but the majority of the new armors I think just look like rubbish and I’d rather not see em. Haven’t had any issues with crashes with skins enabled, though that might be a console issue.
And that’s never going to happen. The only reason MCC got it is because Halo 3 is an OLD game, with an old style, that 343 thought “Maybe people will prefer to play without all the new stuff and maintain H3’s OG look.”
I guess it really just depends on the person. Personally I actually think the 20th Anniversary skins are ugly and I have no desire to own them, but I don’t turn off skins because in the grand scheme of things I really couldn’t give a shit. However, I do think people need to start lightening up and not taking stuff so seriously. It’s not that serious. The world isn’t going to end.
I think a lot of the pushback does not necessarily pertain to the armour as it exists now, but what might eventually be added to the game in the future. I think the toggle is important. It gives players the option of preserving the classic experience, down to the look of the game, or allows them to opt-in if they would enjoy some of the new cosmetics. It is the best of both worlds right now.
With skins disabled, i see the vast majority of players with the default chest armor
I typically see very few vanilla helmets other than mark vi and recon which are the majority in h3 but some players still use them rarely, i remember someone with EVA and another with hayabusa some days ago (i use recon helmet, i think the new helmet skins are all changed to recon or mark vi from my point of view instead of a random vanilla helmet, otherwise there should be more variety, but i’m not sure)
In reach there are a lot more vanilla sets of course
Feel like calling people ‘boring’ is a pretty negative way of going about a conversation that most people are pretty balanced on.
For a lot of people - myself included - what characters look like is completely irrelevant. I have never, ever played a match and thought either ‘their armour is boring’ or ‘their armour is so sick!’. That has genuinely never happened.
Secondly, more customisation = less like Master Chief. That’s important to lots of people too.
Then throw in the crashing issues many have.
I’m clearly a bit triggered by this but I think what you’ve really said is ‘I want to look like this so you all should have to indulge me’. It’s a personal choice whether people do or not, which is how it should be.
Im a big fan of the added customization options. All those years ago on the Bnet forums I would read about how it was impossible to add new armor permutations to H3 and Reach. It stung seeing how 343 blatantly teased the AKIS/GRD helmet, and didn’t deliver. I keep the toggle disabled at all times, even if it means H3 crashes and suffer a stupid ban. I didn’t wait 14 years for new H3 armors to toggle them off until 343 can get around to fixing the damn game.
Hopefully the next update will fix the crashing that’s been happening for several seasons now, but I like the new content too much to just waive it away.
I had turned them off in the past as a way to reduce MCC crashing my Xbox One X and potentially getting me banned from matchmaking - thankfully I haven’t experienced this on a Series X so I have them reenabled for the time being.
