If you break outisde the map, you can see a white box that appears to be directly underneath the center of the map. I tried getting close to it in forge but there are a lot of kill zones and I always die. I took some pictures of it, but I can’t figure out how to post them here:P
here are two pictures I took of it, one being zoomed in with the sniper rifle.
ANy ideas?
Just upload them in your File Share.
It is either a reference frame, or a “hook” for whatever code animates the structure at the center of the map.
In the Halo game engine, a reference frame is basically an object that acts as the center of the world: all other objects have their coordinates measured relative to the frame. Frames are usually untextured boxes hidden outside of the map.
Good idea, i took those with my phone ill go in a game and take snapshots right now
It’s a companion cube that WILL threaten to stab you!
OT: All maps since Reach have had them. It seems to be something to do with the engine. Breakpoint’s was blue, Breakneck’s black etc. It seems to be an alternate way of storing unused textural and scriptural data, rather than using Halo 3’s level command 000, 000, 000 (or 180, 180, 180) i;e: The absolute end of the map.
EDIT: Erosion’s black one can be seen simply be facing the big building from outside, looking at the left entrance, and zooming back until the edge of a black box shows up. This seems to be engine-geared.
So essentially, if I were able to destroy this box… the map would cease to exist? or it would become multi-dimensional? I think 343i should patch this before someone takes advantage of this…

The box is indestructible.
Basically, if you were a 343i employee (or a Halo Custom Edition mapmaker) editing a map, and you clicked and dragged the box to move it, every other object on the map would move with it.

Thanks for the reply, this is good news. THis must be how Dr. Hoffman felt once he found out how to synthesize LSD. 343i is about to get a stick shoved up their -Yoink-
In game, it is invincible. Using console commands on a J-Tagged XboX to remove it would probably cause a major part of the “look” textures (ground, walls) no become nonexistent. However the “walk” part would still function. It also seems to control undeletable killzones, so that might do that. Most likely, the XboX would crash and burn, most likely.
EDIT: It may cause all textures and coded landmasses to delete, including all your Spartan and gun. This can be seen by plopping a Teleporter outside Reach’s Penance. Trust me, you don’t want that.
