Hello, I have a question. Which video games have the best ending especially First Person Shooter video games, Open World video games and Third Person Shooter video games?
IMO…
First person shooter - Crysis 2
Third person shooter - Dead Space 3
Open world - Assassins Creed 4
Well this is a Halo forum so I’ll stick to Halo games. The ending to CE was fantastic imo. I especially like CE’s ending because, from what I understand, Bungie wasn’t totally sure if they were going to make a sequel at the time. The gaming industry can be volatile, so it can be a difficult balance of ending a story while also leaving it open to a sequel. CE did a great job of that. It was a self-contained story with plenty to expand on.
I also enjoyed H3’s nod to CE at the end. Cortana basically repeats her last line from CE, but John then replies “it’s finished” instead of “I think we’re just getting started”.
Hexic HD had the most joyous ending for me when I got the last achievement grand pearl pooh bah. Other then that I can’t think of any probably because I have played too many games and don’t remember a lot of the endings. One game standing out is where the wild things are granted I was reading between the lines and interpreting things. For TPS I would say Spec ops the line and FPS and open world I got none right now.
Doom Eternal had me sitting on my couch with my mouth wide open, that ending was some badass stuff.
Reach had me in tears though, my mom had to come to check in on me when she heard me…
Halo CE, Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo 3: ODST.

I mean I agree with that list for my top 5 except I would move Halo 2 to the end and add Reach before ODST.
Halo 3, Halo 4, Halo CE
- Reach. I was saddened by Six’s passing - CE. The ending is awesome - Halo 2. The ending made me want more - Halo 3. The ending was cool, but also a bit “meh” compared to the others - Halo 3 ODST. The ending was perfect
- Halo 4. Haven’t finished it - Halo 5. Haven’t started it
If we are talking about the Halo games then I would have to say Halo 4. Didact’s monologue aside, seeing the Pelican’s land with First Responder’s only to find that there is nobody in New Phoenix to tend to is a pretty powerful scene. And when the Master Chief is walking along the S-Deck with everyone turning expressions of awe his way is something else.
However, if we are talking about all video games on the Xbox, then Mass Effect 2’s ending is by far the best. The death-defying escape, wondering if Shepard and the Normandy SR-2 would return from the Suicide Mission, and then seeing the crew gear up as the Reapers slowly make their way towards the Milky Way is just pure unfiltered awesomeness.

Halo CE especially since it makes way for halo first strike

Halo CE and Halo 3 are the perfect endings to the begining and end of trilogy in my opinion. I feel like I always change my answer slightly to this question but when really think about it these two are the top for me.
Halo 5 has the worst ending.

Entirely agree with those as picks, absolutely phenomenal.
However… for me Reach is the best in the series. I challenge anyone when they first played through it to not want to immediately play CE again - exactly the same as Rogue One made you want to go back to New Hope.
Other standouts for me would be:
- Telltale’s Walking Dead: Season 1 - gut wrenching but incredible - Portal - Zelda: Ocarina of Time - Red Dead Redemption

Good choice
- FPS: Either Serious Sam: The Second Encounter, Painkiller: Heaven’s Got a Hitman (on Trauma difficulty), or Halo 4 - RPG: Many Final Fantasy games, particularly X and X-2’s Perfect Ending - Open World Game: GTA Vice City or San Andreas (I can’t say GTA IV or V or Red Dead Redemption 2 as I have not played through them) - Fighting: Mortal Kombat 11 (if you beat Kronika in the Prehistoric Age)
Halo CE and Halo 3. I definitely enjoy the CE warthog run alot more, but the music, setting and atmosphere were done better in 3 I think.
