which Spartan could replace john?

Let’s assume this:

John gets killed because he trips over a rock, there is a Spartan looking down at Chief’s body, the camera then zooms to the Spartan and text pops up saying " _____ will now replace chief"

Which Spartan do you think could live up to John’s legacy and replace him as the main character in Halo?

Personally I’d like to see Linda take the spotlight.

Dat death doe…

Being the biased Gray Team fanboy that I am, I’d have to go with either Jai, Adrianna, or Mike.

Fred or Thorne. Yup, going to ride the Thorne train as far as it will go.

Linda is probably the only Spartan they could make a game about without needed to change the formula too much. Any Spartan can hold their own alone, and I’m sure Fred/Kelly would do just fine. However Linda, like the chief, is said to work just as well as a lone wolf as she is in a team. Just makes sense to let her take the spotlight given in the games Chief is on his own most of the time.

So replace a formerly boring protagonist with a currently boring protagonist?

Linda.

Though, honestly, that death is pathetic :stuck_out_tongue:

Hey, I also said Fred. I’m just biased for Thorne.

Realistically speaking, Fred-104 was always the one being groomed to be “next in line” as leader of the Spartan-IIs. And in fact he was for several years while the Chief was MIA on the Dawn. It’s even been noted in canon multiple times that he could be better than the Chief in most areas if he actually wanted to be, but he doesn’t like the attention. I think that’s really interesting. I wouldn’t doubt he could pick up where the Chief left off.

However, if we’re just talking about who we’d want to see take up more of the limelight - I would choose Kelly-087. She’s always been the stalwart right-hand and confidant to her team leaders, has an incredibly varied skill set (scout, “rabbit”, hacker, pilot, infiltrator), and she has a force of personality (but not in the hamfisted, “I’m an uber-badass” way) that most of the other S-IIs keep well under the surface. I would love to see a female character that is witty, compassionate, and wholly deadly in combat take up the role as “main character” - and Kelly could absolutely do that.

Linda is truly a character we need to learn more about!

Spartan 1337. Why not?

Joking aside. I would have to say… Jameson Locke.

It’s the only logical choice.

Spartan 1337

what about a moa? that would be interesting

Well, bias is pretty much the only reason I selected the members of Gray Team. In reality, either Fred or Linda are the best possible choices.

Well it all depends on when. If Chief were to die say in the next escalation ark then I’d say Fred.

If you think about it it’s already happened. With all the stuff that’s been happening with John in the games Fred has been doing everything that John would have done in the books. He’s effectively taken John’s place in the SIIs and he’s pretty much the go-to leader now. Though I have to admit that the last escalation ark showed us that old habits die hard.

But I’m going to guess that this is a question of who should take John’s place in terms of the games, not the books because like I said, book wise it’s already happened. And that would mean that Fred likely wouldn’t be leading other Spartans which is something that just sounds utterly boring and wasteful. Not to mention that it would mean Fred would be directly following in John’s shadow, first with leading Blue team and second with becoming the main protagonist. As much as I’d like to see more of Fred I like putting him in John’s spotlight might cheapen the uniqueness of his character.

But all this aside if John were to die very soon Fred would still be the most logical option.

However. If he were to die and need a replacement a few years for. Years that would give time to build characters like Locke or Thorne than they’d be the natural choices. As of right now I’d say they wouldn’t cut it but they’re new characters and by the looks of things Thorne was custom made with this intention in mind and by the looks of things Locke shows the same potential. Having a Spartan from a later generation would leave me feeling like that the story is making actual progression while taking another Spartan from same generation as John would leave me feeling like we’re still in the same place where the SIVs look like nothing but wasted potential.

So as much as I like Fred I’d rather see 343 put the work into building up an SIV that would take his place.

P.S I’m kinda disappointed that my bias to Fred wasn’t strong enough to sway my opinion.

Easily Thorne.

…but I remember, how dare there be a Spartan-IV playing a large role in the story!

The problem is that he’s so friggin’ generic…

Thorne is boring, just not much as Grant. Madsen is the best Spartan-IV anyway (think I got the “most uncommon opinion of the week” prize).

OP, Fred.

Jameson Locke.

Johnson, I say return to the S1 generation
