So I just bought Halo: MCC, I also bought Halo ODST and Halo Reach for £3 each. I have a week off work and its my birthday on saturday and what better way to spend my birthday week off than playing all the halos! I’ve played Halo 3 in the past when it launched and also played a LOT of reach back in 2010 although I’ve never gave the campaigns much of a chance, I’ve played a few but never finnsihed them so I decided to buy the lot and was wondering If you guys would reccomend playing them In relase order or what? thanks in advance, see you all on the battlefield!

Playing Reach after the original trilogy will introduce you to mechanics that carry over into Halo 4 and 5, so despite it being out of order story-wise, it may be beneficial from a gameplay standpoint as the changes from Halo 3 to Halo 4 wouldn’t be as abrupt.

Release order. There are bunch of comic books you need to read between 4 and 5 though. Not sure why 343i decided to do that.

I’m going to suggest a little bit of a different order, and with my reasoning with each.
Start with Halo CE (Anniversary edition of course). That’ll introduce you to the universe and mechanics.
Then move into Halo: Reach. Both games were launched close together (CEA and Reach) so graphical dropoff isn’t bad. Of course gameplay in Reach is different due to reticule bloom and armor abilities, but there’s no shooting mechanics like dual wielding, you start to learn to pace your shots with the DMR, and you’ll get more of a taste for the universe. Reach and 4 are just so far apart in my opinion, that despite the introduction to faster mobility, you might as well make the jump from 3 to 4 because it’s about the same leap. You also seem to have a lot of experience with Reach so you’ll be able to focus on the gameplay a little more.
Onto Halo 2 (Anniversary), where the exposition really starts blowing up (literally). This is also where you reach the pinnacle of your graphics, in-game and in cutscenes IMO.
Then move on to Halo 3 ODST, which fleshes out a little bit of the story on Earth in Halo 2/3.
Then onto 3, 4, and 5.
If you really want to play Halo Wars as well, I would suggest playing them back to back after 5. As of now, they kind of run their own separate storyline.

I like this a lot, makes it easier to visualize when listed out like that.
I recommend NOT playing them on MCC, and instead playing on the old discs, personally. It’s up to you.
Start with Halo Reach, go on to Halo: Combat Evolved than to Halo 2. Move onto Halo 3: ODST and than finish with Halo 3. I don’t recommend moving onto Halo 4 as it really goes down hill right after, but if you really want to, start with halo 4 and move onto Halo 5: Guardians. This is the games in order of when they happen.
After you finish these halo games, play the two halo Wars games in order (because halo Wars 2 is connected with Halo 5: Guardians. Just know that Halo Wars 1 is completely separate from any of the halo games aside from the sequel.

that how I would play the games
I highly recommend playing the Halo games in the order they got released which follows like this.
- Halo Combat Evolved - Halo 2 - Halo 3 - Halo 3 ODST - Halo Reach - Halo 4 - Halo 4 Spartan Ops - Halo 5 Guardians
It’s very common when it comes to creating video games and other pieces of art to build the story of previous games and it is always great to have the background knowledge from previous games.
The Halo Wars is a bit different as they story from the main games and Halo Wars hasn’t really been merged together yet. Halo Wars can be look as a separate story compared to the FPS games that will eventually flow together.
Well, Chronological order of course. That’s the best way to experience the story.

Not always as it’s common in story telling to have some flashbacks of previous events. It’s always better to read in the order that the piece of art got released as it’s common to base information on previous books, movies and games.
It would also be very complicated to play the Halo games in chronological order as for example Halo 3 ODST took place before Halo 3 but in the started in the middle of Halo 2.

The ODST DLC on MCC is a pay DLC but the pricing is very generous when it comes to pay DLC. The most positive aspect of MCC is actually that you can play 5 Halo Campaigns in a single game and Spartan Ops.
