Which of the Sgt. Johnson speeches are canon?

I don’t know if this question has been answered before, but I was wondering which one of Johnson’s speeches are canon. In each game Sgt. Johnson gives a different speech depending on the difficulty. Halo CE he gives a speech at the beginning of the game, Halo 2 he gives a speech when he delivers the tank to Chief, and in Halo 3 he has one line of dialogue after giving chief an AR. So I’m curious, which difficulty’s speech is the canon one?

If any of his speeches were canon it would probably be the Heroic ones. Heroic is “the way Halo is meant to be played” and most accurately represents lore as it relates to gameplay. Frankly, I’d prefer it if 343i never favored one set over the rest. Keeping things open-ended is the best way to go about it.

If you really wanted to rule one out at a push maybe the Legendary one in Halo CE cause of the Legendary Ending not being canon. But as I said that is at a push.

The canon speech is whatever difficulty you’re playing.

They’re all canon but as alternatives. Sorta like an alternate ending.

I guess Normal

I’d agree with Heroic mainly because of this

Heroic does have some good ones on top of it so I wouldn’t mind if these were the only ones canon. Though for CE you could check the Flood and see which one appears I guess.

I don’t see why it can’t be left to interpretation. It’s not like ambiguity should always be avoided. Sure, 343 Industries were inevitably going to have to answer Noble Six’s gender since he would be brought up again at some point. But there’s nothing wrong with allowing the gamers to determine which dialogue is canon for a single cinematic. That is unless they decide to reproduce the scene in a book or movie.

Yeah, and even then there aren’t many possible scenarios that would give them a reason to revisit that scene.

…then Sergeant Johnson grabbed me by the shoulder, shot me a stern look and asked ‘You hit, marine?’. I answered, “No, sir.” Then he told me to listen up and uttered words I will never forget. Words that inspired me to fight on in the face of utter despair:

“When I joined the Corps, we didn’t have any fancy-schmanzy tanks. We had sticks, two sticks, and a rock for the whole platoon – and we had to share the rock! Buck up, boy, you’re one very lucky marine!"

And it was only later that it dawned on me how lucky I was to meet Sgt. Johnson that day. He gave me back my courage. He’s the reason I’m a Spartan today.

i forget which halo you-tuber did a video over it but he decided the most supported canon difficulty in the game was actually easy difficulty. he used information from the books i think as proof, then again it has been a long time since ive seen the video. if you go to YouTube and search what difficulty is most cannon in halo odds are the video will pop up and you can see for yourself. if you want an answer that badly

Please don’t revive old topics, thanks, especially ones that are over 3 years old
