This is something that I have been trying to figure out as its argument that has come up from time to time with one of my Xbox friends. They say that the whole original trilogy uses a projectile system for all of its weapons (that or just CE and 3, I can’t remember exactly). I say that only Halo 3 used a full projectile system with the rest using hit-scan for all but the power weapons like the rocket launcher.
I haven’t been able to find anything saying different from what I claim, so I was just wonder if anyone else knew.
I think the majority of the weapons are hitscan, though were are some exceptions:
- The CE Magnum and H3 Battle Rifle are projectile weapons in their respective games. - The Railgun and Gauss Turret were projectile weapons in Halo 4, but were changed to hitscan in Halo 5.That’s all that I know honestly… :\

The rocket launchers should also be a projectile weapon un Halo5.
With CE, the pistol, rockets and sniper were projectile, but I don’t really remember if the other human weapons were. I believe the plasma weapons were projectile. H2 was obviously hitscan for a lot of weapons so it wasn’t the entire trilogy. Don’t know much about H3 personally, but with a little research I found that just about all the weapons were projectile in H3. Maybe someone who’s better informed could give an answer with H3.
CE: Projectile
H2: Hitscan
H3: Projectile
Halo Reach: Hitscan
H4: Hitscan
H5: Hitscan
There’s a couple variables in individual weapons but that’s the game list.
Edit: Fixed H2 to say “Hitscan” instead of “Campaign” because idk what I was thinking.

What does Halo 2’s campaign have to do with this?
;D

LMAO.
Omg. I have absolutely no idea. I was in the middle of a meeting when I posted. Ripppppp.
I’m dying. Wtf was I thinking!
what does hitscan mean? Does it mean that there’s no actual bullet (or plasma) and instead the game just registers that you hit whatever you’re aiming at the moment you pull the trigger?
(o_O )
btw, I know. I could just google this information. But I like posting on the forums.

Hitscan means that a weapon will instantly strike a target, regardless of distance. Think of it being hit with a beam of light…that wants to kill you.

Hitscan = bullet goes where the reticle is which means if you see a dude and you can put your reticle on him, the bullet goes where you aim.
Projectile = Ballistics based which results in needing to lead your shots and anticipate movement.
I would say a vast majority of the weapons are hit scan now. Most of the weapons that aren’t are either Promethean or Covenant weapons, right?
CE and 3 are the only FPS games that used projectiles, the rest used hitscan.
So what I have learned here is that CE did as well, I did not know that. Its kinda weird, it seems like Halo 3 is the only halo that is talked about when projectile systems come. It does make sense though, besides Halo 3, CE does feel the most wonky when it comes to shots connecting.
this is the thing:
Halo Combat Evolved: Proyectile bullets
Halo 2: Hitscan
Halo 3 and 3:odst: Proyectile Bullets
Halo Reach: I think proyectile bullets
Halo 4 and 5: hitscan
the sniper, and the beam rifle are hitscan in every game

This was confirmed earlier in the thread:

All games but Halo: CE and Halo 3 are Hitscan.
