Which Halo would you want the Classic Playlist to emulate

I mean with things like movement and health system it is closer to CE than it is to say Halo 3, but at the same time I see many threads suggesting Halo 2-3 features to fix Reach as opposed to more CE fixes which Reach was supposed to be like anyway. So I ask you dear community, would you rather Reach play more like Halo CE, Halo 2, or Halo 3?

None, i just want no bloom and bleed-through, which emulates all halo game. (lol)

2… anyone who played that would agree.

Halo 2.

With a few exceptions (like, say, vehicle physics or, dare I say, the OP pistol), Halo CE - by a long shot. Of any of the Halo games, it boasts the cleanest, well-put-together sandbox and a near-perfect balanced ‘triangle’ between melees, grenades and guns.

Halo 2, despite the starry-eyed nostalgia it often gets, had a pretty terrible sandbox: it was BR or -Yoink-. The Plasma Pistol+BR combo was ridiculous and dual-wielding, as neat as it was (I loved duals matches), just created a slew of half-weapons that could only compete with the BR in pairs and even then only usually CQC conditions (which could be countered anyway with the Dragon Ball Z melee lunge)…or let’s not forget the unlimited sword. Who thought of that? I often wonder if Halo 2 would enjoy such fondness if CE, a better balanced game by far, had LIVE. Or perhaps the mean gamer is simply a bit younger.

Though that all said, the maps were top-notch which is why I also had a great deal of enjoyment with the game. Though for balance and maps, Halo PC remains my top Halo game. Nothing compares to the possibilities of dynamic encounters you can have in spaces like Infinity, Death Island, or Gephyrophobia. Though I’d also gladly take Terminal, Headlong or Relic over anything we’ve had since.

I love Halo 2, but I also loved “BR or -Yoink-” games like the dude above me said. I am not under any illusions about how messed up the weapon balance was in Halo 2. I think it should play least like Halo 3. Halo 3 was the low point of the series. I still liked 3 okay, but Reach, CE and 2 were all better games.

All that said I think the game should play most like Halo CE because the weapons were balanced, the gameplay was fast and its the ANNIVERSARY OF CE.

dont care. just tired of the cod like game people are calling halo reach. i mean the reason i play halo and not cod is because it is much better. well was any ways.

reach would be an awesome game with no bloom and bleed through. but i would go nuts if they add back h2 or h3 style 50s. like literally nuts.

On topic, H3, easily.

Off topic, why the dislike for H3? I don’t object or have a problem, but I love it so I’m interested in your reasoning.

Halo 2.

Id have to say post TU H2 simply bc with the massive amount of auto-aim and magnetism you cant have a pistol like the CE pistol it would be way to easy to use.

Well I don’t.
I played way more Halo 2 than CE but all I want is the game to be more like Halo:CE, which it should, considering it’s the -Yoinking!- Anniversary of it!

I want it to play like Halo 2, but with some very real differences:

1 - No glitches.
2 - All weapons able to compete with the BR/DMR in terms of power.
3 - Smoother more up to date collision and friction emulation.

Basically 1 and 3 are guaranteed. It’s 2 I’m worried about.

Halo 3 had a lot of improvements over Halo 2; The sandbox was more balanced than 2, but that’s not saying much. My biggest beefs with Halo 3 were the death of mid to long range combat due to the changes made to the BR and the (all the weapons for that matter) and the fact that the netcode did a terrible job of hiding how much you got screwed by latency. It happens in every game, but some game do a better job of masking it. When obvious things happen that don’t make sense, it kills the immersion factor…things like getting lasered through walls, shooting people in the head with sniper and seeing blood fly only to have them run off like it didn’t happen Having to lead shots while competing with all the variables of the internet. I hated (stll hate) aim acceleration and how strong it is in Halo 3 which screwed up strafing. I hated the BR spread most of all. It slowed kill times down. These were complaints post-patch.

Pre-patch, the melees were a mess due to what you saw on your screen vs. what the host decided was happening. So you would beat someone down and have them live, then a half second later, they would beat you down and kill when they very clearly should have been dead. Also, there were maulers all over the place, resulting in massive camping. Some of these issues exist still in Reach, but the big ones…the BR and the networking issues that killed the immersion have largely been resolved, even if not perfectly.

Don’t get me wrong, Reach still has it’s fair share of flaws that make me cuss the game, but every online game ever has, even Starcraft 2. I pure hate the slow kill times & some of the campy maps like Sword Base. Anchor 9 and Spire might be the two worst maps ever made.

I think in hindsight, Halo 3’s post patch melee system was still better than the shield pop/double melee cheese in Reach. Halo 2’s melee system was better than 3 though. What it comes down to though, is that in Halo 2, you weren’t forced to team shoot. It was a good strategy, but if you found a straggler you could kill them fast enough that he wouldn’t be able to run or live long enough to have help come from half a map away. Reach has this problem too, but not as bad as H3 with stronger nades and the pistol killing as fast as it does. Hopefully the patch will improve this further.

I am not saying Halo 2 was the best game ever. It had huge flaws, as did Halo 3, as does Reach. Just the same, in my opinion, Halo 3 was the least enjoyable game of the series.

Halo 2, Despite its many flaws its just epic, maybe those flaws added to the experience too?

I wouldn’t say the noob combo or sweep sniping added to it…nor did getting out of maps and superjumps. That said, Halo 2, when played legit was my favorite game online.

Halo 2 was for me the most entertaining of the series, but anyone denying how imbalanced the game actually was before and even after BR starts were implemented is a fool.

I want the classic playlist to emulate Halo CE. It’s definitely the most balanced of the series.

Agreed. If Classic were to emulate Halo 2’s weapon balance, it would not sit well. Where I would like Classic to emulate 2 is with keeping weapons hitscan being that I’ve seen no evidence that network latency + bullet travel can be consistent enough. I honestly don’t know how people would react to a 3sk pistol that is hitscan though. It would have to have auto aim reduced greatly if it worked at all.

I’m not hoping that the Classic playlist will emulate any Halo game in particular, I just want it to feel like Halo when I’m playing.

Halo 2 or 3

I am assuming by that, you mean no AA’s or bloom? I would agree with that, but movement and kill times HAVE to be faster for it to feel classic, in which case the closer to CE the better. What would be awesome is if you could strafe without feeling like you are stuck in mud. I am not holding my breath for that change though.
