Which Halo was better?

Halo 4 vs Halo 5

  • campaign? - multiplayer? - characters? - weapons? - design?

Campaign I will give to H4 but H5 did have it’s moments as well. The swords of Sanghelios mission was one of my all time favorites.
Multiplayer… hmmm H4 had the better maps but H5 has the better gameplay and weapon balance.
Characters… H5 by a narrow margin I guess.
Weapons… H5. The weapon balance is near perfect. All weapons have their uses.
Design… not really sure what this means but it’s kinda a tie. Both have ups and downs. H4 had a joke of a ranking system and H5 has a pretty good one. H4 at least had a post game medal count, H5 doesn’t. H4 had great multiplayer maps H5 not so much. H5 arena is great for competitiveness, H4 was a casual player dream… we all know the list.

What do you mean by design?

Everything except campaign Halo 5 did better with. They could of told the story a lot more, I thought we were going to see Chief change and carry on with the cortana loss and stuffs.

But nah they killed Spartan ops by having Osiris kill him in 3 seconds, 3/15 missions as Chief, a crappy cliffhanger ending, and it wasn’t really memorable. By that i mean traditional. Like more classic music, people, weapons, vehicles. Idk just hope Halo 6 will learn from Halo 5s campaign mistakes

PvE and story, as well as the unlock system and progression, halo 4 was far better.

Pretty much everything else in halo 5 was improved, except the art style, I kind of wish they made it like H2A art style, I loved that.

In some ways, Halo 4 was better, but in others 5 was better. I couldn’t pick which one was better.

  • Characters: Halo 5

  • Weapons: Halo 5

  • Design: Halo 5

  • Campaign: Halo 4EDIT: For campaign i mean the story, in terms of how much fun i had in every mission, Halo 5 demolishes Halo 4.

Campaign: Halo 4 beats Halo 5 in terms of story, but the gameplay is definitely improved in Halo 5.

Multiplayer: Halo 5 beats Halo 4 in terms of core gameplay hands down. While I still don’t like all the changes Halo 5 made, I still prefer it over the Halo/CoD hybrid that was Halo 4. In terms of content and replayability, Halo 4 has more game types, features, and better customization.

Characters: Even though Halo 4 really only focused on developing Cortana and John, at least it had character development unlike Halo 5 which had very bland characters and was just throwing -Yoink- at the wall hoping it would stick.

Weapons: I feel like it is much easier to balance for an arena shooter than for a loadout shooter, so weapon balance and design goes to Halo 5.

Design: I’m not quite sure what you mean by this. Do you mean art style or general game design? If so:

  • Art style - Both games have pretty much the same art style, and frankly, I don’t like this art style as much as the art style of Halo CE - Reach.
  • General - Halo 4, despite it’s massive shortcomings, is a more complete game than Halo 5. Halo 5 feels like a Steam Early Access game, slowly updating and improving until it becomes a finished game down the road.Overall, I feel like Halo 5 is the better game than Halo 4, but only marginally considering there are many things you could point out in Halo 4 as being better than Halo 5.

Personally I hated every aspect of halo 4 so obviously I’m going to say halo 5 is better, halo 3 will always be my favorite

The 343 art style is much better than the Bungie one imo.
In Halo 1-2-3-Reach it didn’t even look like it was in the future (apart from Covenant design, which i liked more than the new one)

design encompasses all the above, pretty much.
design = overall

Well, imo, Bungie’s art style was more gritty and practical, while also being futuristic. I mean, this Halo 3 marine looks more futuristic, gritty, and practical, thanthis Halo 4 marine, who is wearing a Kevlar ballistic vest. Kevlar is a modern thing, and the Halo 3 marine had hard body armor segments, while maintaining an overall aesthetically pleasing look.

But this guys are far more futuristic than the Halo 3 marine (which is still cool though)
I mean look at these ships, they are more futiristic than this one!

Which is the better corvette? the C1, C2, C3, C4 C5 or C6? Greatly depends on what you prefer. My favorite is the C2 1965 corvette. but I would gladly drive the 2016. corvette. my point? All the halos have good things and bad.

Those Halo 4 and Halo 5 marines are still wearing Kevlar ballistic vests, which is not futuristic at all. And if I were comparing ships, I would compare H2A’s In Amber Clad, just because it is the most up to date version of the UNSC frigates.

I’m a Halo conservative, I like the older games more than the newer games, both in game mechanics, stories, multiplayer, and in art style. To me, 343i is trying to remake the art style to represent a post-war Human military force, which wouldn’t be bad in theory, but the way that they did it doesn’t resonate as an art style that would be easily identified as Halo, at least to me. It instead looks more like a generic science fiction military force, with the whites, tans, and reds, rather than the practical military forces of Bungie’s, which were outfitted in advanced olive green body armor.

Campaign: Halo 4 is far better story and writing wise. But Halo 5’s gameplay was better.
Multiplayer: Halo 5 is far better than 4 (minus the severe lack of content).
Characters: Halo 4.
Weapons: Halo 5
Designs: Neither. Not a big fan of either game’s designs.

Campaign- The winner here is tight, replayable, story- and universe-filled, character-developing, and potentially the most important moment in franchise history. Halo 5.

Multiplayer- Here, it’s all about what you’re looking for. If you like casual game play, BTB, overpowered power weapons, and plain fun, Halo 4 takes it. If you like competitive play, weapon balance, 4v4, and objectives, Halo 5 is your puppy. Tie.

Characters- The winner here has real diversity and multifaceted characters that show the surface is just starting to be scratched. Halo 5.

Weapons- For balance, go 5. For truly powerful weapons, go 4. Tie.

Design- Both are beautiful, but though 5 explores many planets and settings, 4 has the edge with sheer variety in both maps and campaign. For sound design, 4 holds the edge for all except weapon sounds. Halo 4.

In my opinion, I don’t really care for gritty or practical. I’d pick stickies over frags, Rogue helmets over Recruit, and railguns over snipers any day. It’s just more fun when a game’s a game.
