For you fans out there that have played a long time, when you think of the definitive Halo game, what do you think? I don’t know about you, but I either think Halo 1, 2, or 3.
Do you think of armor abilities? Do you think of reticule bloom? In my opinion, I know I don’t. I’d like to see what the community says to this.
Question: If you’ve played since at least the beginning/middle of Halo 3, what Halo game did you have the most fun in, do you think that this title is the definitive Halo game, and why? THIS WILL ALSO BE A POLL QUESTION
Also, do you like the direction Halo is headed, and do you think that it’s direction is what Halo should be doing?
CE was so nostalgic, if there is anything good about a Halo game you’ll find it first in CE. It had that 90’s esque feel to it. From Chief’s armour, How Cortana looked.
I got Anniversary and my feelings strike true, if I had played anniversary back then it wouldnt have been as good.
Halo 4. Because I believe Halo isn’t about staying 100% at its core, I believe its about updating its core with each and every game, and thats what its been doing.
Some of the changes arnt good, some of them are, but either way, Halo 4 is the most updated from the original Halo, yet it still has a hint of being a true Halo in it. And thats why I love it.
I dont wanna pay 60 bucks for the same multiplayer as the game before with updated graphics (cough COD cough)

CoD has kept it’s multi-player very similar throughout it’s titles because they found a formula that worked and refined it and polished it to a shine.
I am not a CoD player, but I do know that they wanted to build upon a firm foundation instead of redesigning it with a huge structure on top like they are doing with halo.
Stick with the Halo core, and build from there. Don’t try and redefine the core every game, because then you have a fractured fan base, and only a portion of the fan base will be happy with the game until changes are made, and then the other portion will not be happy.
CoD’s fan base is solid because they have kept the game intact, and just polished it from title to title. If Halo did the same, it’s fan base my not be as large, but more people would be happy with the game.
Hmm…I’d say the original trilogy, but mostly Halo: CE. Bungie had a tripod for combat, with guns, grenades, and melee which is the core of Halo, and the original trilogy thus far has stuck to it the best. In CE Frags hurt like hell, it took three melees to kill, and the guns were all effective at their own niche with the pistol being a jack-of-all-trades.
Halo 2 introduced dual-wielding, a mechanic which skewed the tripod to favor guns. You couldn’t use grenades while dual-wielding and melee…well, melee in Halo 2 was, in my memory, the least effective melee in the series. While Halo 2 was enjoyable in its own right, it was also full of bugs and major aim-assist when compared to its predecessor.
Halo 3 brought melee back up to par and a bit further as it became a two-hit kill. You also had the bleed-through damage on shields using melee which made Assault Rifle rushing rather prevalent, granted it worked similarly in CE as well (difference being that you’d lose your shields in CE and then get punched)…and of course, with this simultaneous-beat down which would result in both people killing each other. Equipment was introduced but not overall causing a major impact.
Why? It had probably the best character development to be contained in the one game, firefight was revolutionary and gameplay was good. Also had one of the most difficult campaigns for legendary and one of the best soundtracks.
As much as Halo 4 is such an awesome game, I have to say Halo 3 is my definitive halo, the main theme, the whole soundtrack, campaign, forge, custom games it was all there, I always have to jump onto Halo 3 every so often to play a little campaign or muck about on forge for a bit, that nostalgia is enough to keep me alive for a very long time
I’m just gonna put my own opinion in on this matter that I feel like saying.
For me, choosing a videogame franchise (in its own way) is like trying to choose the woman your gonna love.
You want one that stands out from the rest, one that makes you happy, and just one your gonna overall love even in the bad times.
Halo was the franchise I loved, but now its been made to be like a clone of Call of Duty so it no longer stands out for me. (in its own way) and Halo 4 is only working half the time for me.
I think Reach has to be the definitive game for me.
Let me explain before the abuse.
HALO CE can’t be considered as it’s the birth place. The start.
So it’s obviously great.
So I have to rank them to the other games.
And Reach ticks most box’s for me.
Gameplay wise. The maps and weapons and vehicles are the best in any halo.
People complain of bloom or something but it never once bothered me.
The plasma launcher was great. Revanant to.
The mp maps had nice weapon distribution and all felt fairly large and fun for me.
Campaign wise.
I loved the create your own spartan part.
The story. Well not exact to fall of reach was still great at conveying the plot.
The piloting mission was fantastic and something the halo series long needed.
But my Favorite part was the hopelessness of the entire thing.
It did by far the best job of showing the covenant at work on a human world.
All the other halo’s had talked about the loss of human worlds to the covenant.
All the book’s are dropping with how desperate the UNSC fight is.
And you don’t really get that in any other halo.
The raid on Sol in halo 2 is just that. A raid.
Right down to the dialogue were cortana says “i don’t think they expected to find humanity here” or some such.
I played all of them, but I found H3 to have the best overall MM experience for me. I felt that the ranks were well designed, if not a little easy to get a 50, as well as the xp progression system to be the best addition of any TU of all time.
