Which Halo is currently smoothest online

I have been playing a little 4 of late and its its same old glitchy but somewhat playable self at good times and a pathetic mess at low population times.
How are Reach and 3 comparing online?.
I live in Australia if that helps.

Halo Reach’s servers are pretty comparable to Halo 4. It has hiccups from time to time, but for the most part it’s pretty smooth.

Halo 3’s servers on the other hand are complete and utter garbage. It’s possible to get smooth games, but they are rare and far fetched. It’s kinda sad really.

Smoothness level (worst to best): Halo 3 > Sand Paper > Halo Reach > Halo 4

I actually find it to be quite the opposite

6/10 of my H4 games are so laggy that I am either forced to quit or the whole game lags out and I am pushed back to the matchmaking screen

And no, its not my internet, every other game plays perfectly find on my connection
H3 H:R Blops II all just dandy

The netcoding in H4 and the way the game selects host to accommodate new players is atrocious, not having a good/local connection search filter is a big part of what killed this game

Weird. I have not had 2 consecutively smooth games in Halo 3 since before Halo 4 came out.

I think Halo 2 was pretty smooth until the modders came.

It entirely depends on the player and his internet. For me halo 4 is running the smoothest. Followed by reach and then halo 3 in the back.

But each game was running optimal for me when it was the newest title.

For you the results will be different.

I also live in Australia, and I can never really tell which one is smoother. I really only notice the difference when someone in my house uses the Internet, because then it begins to lag an incredible amount.

Reach is probably the smoothest simply because of it has a better net code than 3, and a good connection search option un like 4.

Halo Reach is the smoothest. I can find games in 2-3 minutes and there is no lag.

Pretty much this and add the bad hit registration for Halo 3 and it gets even further away from being smooth online.

for me halo 4 was unbearably laggy and had constant hit detection issues to the point i stopped playing. the straw that broke the camels back was a game where i was behind someone and br-ing them. i used an ENTIRE CLIP of headshots on the guy following him around for like 30 seconds just spamming him down with rounds to the head. he then turns around, hits me with one melee and i died. he was fine.

that was the game that made me trade in halo 4 for a destiny beta code.

halo reach and 3 however have no issues. i would say reach is slightly faster at finding games but neither lag real bad at all maybe 10% of my games lag at most. on halo 4 75% of my games lag.

Halo 3 has pretty bugged out servers, but the hilarity that you witness from the lag in that game keeps me more entertained than is probably healthy for the human mind.

My friends and I started calling Halo 3 lag “The disease” because it hits one person, then suddenly everyone is running into walls and having the body die but still being able to look around.

Halo 3 moments. Can’t beat 'em.

Been playing reach everyday since June. During peak pop times connection is very smooth even if youre not drawing host be it mp or ff. Off peak low pop a little bit laggy but not unbearable.

I switched back from H4 to Reach on June 6 and am finally back to enjoying playing Halo multiplayer again.

As other have indicated on Lag, 75% of my H4 war games are lagged by 0.5+ seconds or more. Co-Op and Campaing were even worse than that - basically unplayable.

In Reach I usually play BTB, but a smattering of Slayer and GrifBall. about 1 in 10 games has H4 typical 0.5+ seconds of lag. If I turn on the “Good Connection” option in Reach, that is about 1 game in 20 has H4 typical lag.

Reach Firefight and Campaign Co-Op are usually very playable too and maybe 1 in 10 games has H4 typical lag.

So for me, playing Reach is just night and day different than H4. Try using the “Good Connection” to improve your matchmaking. I see very little delay in wait times for games to start up either.

And piloting a Falcon while my two gunner own the infantry with 15+ assists is just way too much fun.

Reach without question.

I can’t remember the last time I’ve played a laggy game of halo 4 disregarding the ocasional spike that quickly passes.

Halo 4 and Reach are fine. Halo 3 on the other hand is a mess. It’s always had bad networking and with the low pop 6 yrs later its down right awful.

Send me a friend request, I’d think that the more Australian Halo players I party up with, the more likely the game is to search for an Australian host.

Halo 4 lags every other game.

Halo Reach I couldn’t tell you, I haven’t played it since Halo 4 came out.

Halo 3 I’ve played probably 24 games this past week and had bad lag in one game and minor lag in another, other than that it ran smooth.

> Weird. I have not had 2 consecutively smooth games in Halo 3 since before Halo 4 came out.

I have… but I was host both times.

For me right now, Halo 4 is the smoothest online: extremely reliable hit detection, minimal rubber banding, minimal trades and only a handful of WTF moments. The only downside is the meh host selection.

Halo: Reach isn’t too bad but the trades were a bit much: reliable hit detection (most of the time), occasional rubber banding (usually other players) and minimal WTF moments.

Halo 3 is probably the most stable but it doesn’t exactly have a lot to live up to: horrible hit detection, bullet refund galore, a defective good connection option, trading assassinations and I feel like god when I score host.

Halo 1 has dedicated servers on PC, all located in the US with no lag compensation so that puts it at the bottom of the pile.
