I was thinking about which halo game had the best ending and i was stuck between halo reach or halo 3 odst.
Although it’s not my favorite Halo game or campaign, I do have to agree and say that Reach had one of the best endings. I loved the Lone Wolf mission because it was so different from all of the other game’s endings.
If you’re talking about story ending then Reach. If you’re talking about mission ending then Halo 3.
Halo 3 for sure
I liked Halo 3’s ending. Most likely my favorite, just the thought of Master Chief and Cortana drifting through space. Also that legendary ending, love seeing Requiem in Halo 3.
Ummm… not sure if this is the best answer for the classic forums but halo 4 i feel had the best ending. But if i were to pick a classic gamd them halo 3 by far. But herr would be my list of best to worst endings
- Halo 4
- Halo 3
- Halo 2
- Halo reach
- Halo 3 odst
- Halo ce
∞. Halo 5
for me the best end is halo 3.

I agree with you for the end of a classic halo.
Halo 3 all the way
- Halo 3
- Reach
- Halo 4
- Halo CE
- Halo 2
- Halo 3 ODST
- Halo 5
For me, Halo Reach has the best/Tear jerking ending…yes grown men can cry
reach by far. But i like all of them
Halo CE’s for sure.
Cortana: Halo. It’s finished.
Chief: No. I think we’re just getting started.
Halo 3 without a doubt. The last mission was epic, the jump was suspenseful. Chief almost flying out the bay, telling Cortana they’ll make it, then it cuts to a memorial all of the past heros who died. Arbiter and Hood, then to the 117 engraved into the metal. It was enough to make me cry the first time I played it. I also liked the rest of it but to me the part I just listed is what made it best. If it wasn’t for that then halo reach would win.
Halo 3
Halo Reach
Halo 4
Halo 5 (Good ending, worst halo game by a longshot)
Halo 2
Halo 3 ODST
Halo CE
Im a huge classic fanboy so here’s my list:
- Halo CE
- Halo 3
- Halo Wars (Sad ending was brave and done well considering overall cliche story)
- Halo 4
- Halo 2 (not a huge fan of obvious cliffhangers baiting a sequel, rest of the story was great though)
- Halo Reach (I know it was good and all I just prefer the other stories)
- Halo wars 2 (again bating that sequel…that we aren’t even getting)
- Spartan Strike
- Spartan Assault
- Marathon Durandal
- Destiny
- Destiny 2
- Literally every other game
999+. Halo 5
…I was not a fan of halo 5.

Based on your list, there exists 985 games between “Literally every other game” and “Halo 5”. Out of purse curiosity, which Halo games do you place between the 13th place and the 999th place.
Those are reserved for all future games, and theoretical editions belonging to parallel dimensions including the one were the Halo 5 campaign was awesome but the rest sucked.
Obviously a bit in jest, but H5 story was the first/only halo campaign I have played and not enjoyed the experience almost at all. There were a couple scenes/mechanics they got right, but as a whole it left me very much less invested in the universe than before, and the ending really was one of the worst parts in how quickly the plot seemed to change direction and the major themes of the story completely thrown into the air. On top of the issue of everything relevant being revealed in the third act (except for the one reveal that would have actually made sense - Cortana’s survival and presence in the game was revealed in like the 2nd mission giving away the actual plot twist!), there was also the issue of it begging for the sequel with an unfinished cliffhanger which as I have mentioned is a pet peeve of mine that I didn’t like in H2 or HW2. I would recommend that story tellers look at CE, H3 or H4 for various ways to do it right imo, they all hyped for a next instalment in their own ways while also finishing their own story as well.
