Which firefight did you want returning?

Halo ODST’s firefight, set loadout and find weapons as you go as it increasingly gets harder? Halo Reach’s firefight, premade loadout along with that “Defend the bombs” mode? Or Warzone firefight with its getting whatever you want with the fattest bullet sponges in the game?

Or maybe you guys have an idea of your own that works with Infinite’s design.

I want to see what Halo Infinite can offer us as a remixed version of Halo Reach’s FF.

But I also want to have us be able to customize our own ODSTs as a separate list of Armor Cores for players to use in SWAT PvP and Classic Firefight.

I have this nostalgic preference to ODST FF even tho I honestly believe Reach’s was better in every way.

But what I really want is a new and improved iteration of Guardian’s Warzone FF that can be rolled back to the classic style with customization options.

The new and improved part might mean dropping a ton of players into a warzone via drop pod (BR style) with significant PvE threats and fortifications that a team can tackle for points (banished fortress in the center, imprisoned marines in scattered encampments, a scarab roaming the outer perimeter, etc.). Add in the ability to call in ordinance (weapons and vehicles) or pelican air lift between locations and you’ve got a pretty action-packed PvE experience.

I’ve posted this a few times.

A mix of 3 modes.

All with private and match made options.

Call it Fire ops.

FireOps Excursion: Team of 4-8 explore and open world cell with increasingly difficulty per objective. 4 objectives before storming the boss stronghold.

FireOps Strike. 4-8 players Legendary difficulty storm a fortress. Weekend rotations 1st&3rd weeks Mythic. 2nd&4th LASO

Firefight classic Modes.

As I said above each mode can be played privately as well.

ODST Firefight is legendary, but it is not designed to play with random matchmaking. If it was the same without the Black-Eye Skull, it would be do-able with randoes.

Reach’s Firefight was pretty standard. Mixing different modes in was a bonus. I was never a fan of loadouts. I loved the Armor Abilities.

H5’s Warzone firefight had a good idea, just poor execution. I liked the larger team, the bigger maps, the access the guns and vehicle. I didn’t like the enemies ‘teleporting’ in, or the variations on all the weapons.

I’d like to see a new HI FF. With all the best parts of those that came before.

Reach was the best incarnation of FF, in my opinion. Robust custom options let players adjust things just so to create anything from an intense survival experience to a ridiculous and over the top arcade score-attack mode- and any/everything in between. Also, the smaller player count vs Warzone FF actually creates a sense of a collaborative team effort, as opposed to the chaotic cocophony in Warzone FF.

I don’t care if a gigantic PvE experience comes back, but I’ll be genuinely bummed if we don’t get something like classic Firefight yet again.

I would love to see something more akin to ODST firefight for a few reasons.

  1. People can compare runs and honestly know if you did better than someone else (along with this hopefully they would add armor like Recon and challenges like the Vidmasters back from H3)

  2. Reach’s felt too casual, like a goofy arcade mode that could be made serious but back to point 1, since there were a bunch of parameters you could change to make it way easier it just didnt feel as serious or rewarding to play.

  3. Kind of different from both i would like way way way bigger maps with all sorts of vehicles that can randomly spawn and open and tight spaces so that the combat is more varied, both Reach and ODST usually resulted in just camping in certain areas that were easiest to defend but if the map was very large and the enemies could push you out of that canping spot maybe you could rotate to a new spot. I always felt like this usually couldnt happen in Reach or ODST, if there was a good camping spot you never moved, you would die before you fall back because maps are either too small or there really isnt another good spot.

  4. While H5 had a fun FF it suffers from all things H4 and H5 related. That being 343, in an effort to change Halo into their series and not respecting what Bungie left them, turned FF into something not FF. It was kind of fun every now and then but i just absolutely hate the Covenant enemies, their redesign is just bad, the prometheans are just tanky teleporting nuisances, the armor system is the lamest in the series since the invention of actual customization introduced in H3, and REQ system is just beyond bad.

All that said if they could give us a challenging standardized mode with rewards similar to ODST and let the custom games be more like Reachs i guess i would be okay with that.

I really enjoyed the original Halo Reach Firefight mode.

Improved?

It is a great alternate gamemode, but I wouldn’t say improved.

Especially since there was a common glitch that would make it so that the game wouldn’t spawn enough enemies and it automatically counted as a loss

“Kill 100 Jackals to proceed to Round 3”
*proceeds to spawn only 96 Jackals so for the last two minutes of that round there is nothing but a few straggling other enemies that are not Jackals, so the game is an automatic loss due to the time limit

I think set load outs from Infinite would be good for 2 reasons:

  • Weapons can be introduced to us organically through Grunt mules, which can happen every 3rd wave in a set
  • If allowed equipment starts, the power of the Grapple just outstrips all other equipment by a longshot to the point there’s no real point providing loadouts.

A good start would be to provide AR + SK as default loadout, with Grapple as Equipment.

However what I wanna see is a large scale Firefight, purely PvE. Say 6 - 8 players with many, many more enemies. Could even do boss rounds with Headhunters which multiple players have to gang up on to kill as opposed to a few Field Marshal elites just getting capped with noob combo.

If I had to pick from only the three, then Reach style for sure. Way more customization options for players.

ODST is great for serious survival, but sometimes I just want to chill with my friends and blow yoink up with unlimited fuel rod canons.

Warzone Firefight was a bone 343 threw at fans because they could implement it with minimal effort with the structure of Warzone. It was obviously an afterthought mode and I did not enjoy it. The maps were designed for Warzone, not firefight, and there was zero feel for team work. Do 99% of the damage on the Warden but didn’t get that last shot? Sucks for you.

There is so much potential for a great PvE mode though, and I would like something with a little more progression to it, not just a static “survive in this space” mode. Let’s get some [infiltrate → gather Intel/eliminate VIP/secure VIP → exfil] or [defend base from attack → fall back to various positions → plant charges for asset denial → exfil]. Of course the classic “defend generators” or “survive for as long as possible” could be included, and even improved.

To be honest though, all of this seems like pie in the sky considering we still don’t have co-op, forge, passable custom games, and working theater.

A PvE of 6-8 players would be an amazing introduction into Halo Infinite for a game mode sorta like what was introduced to us in Halo 5.

I really enjoy the idea of having to strategize together as a team to take down larger scale enemies.

Being able to just blow things up with the fuel rod is such a fun sensation every once in awhile for sure. You bring up great points that it might not be for a few seasons of infinite until we potentially even see something in this nature.

I’d preferred Reach’s Firefight returning. I liked that it was customizable like setting how many rounds, activating or deactivating skulls, and customizing or removing loadouts. I did enjoy ODST Firefight, I just hated the Black Eye skull.

as a person who likes a challenge in pve i liked odst’s firefight the most. reach firefight was way too easy and 5 depended on you grinding for or paying for loot boxes.

Yes. (All 3 of them please and thank you  )

Didnt care for fire fight, like Warzone better.

I really think you’d like my idea on fire ops I’ve mentioned above.

I enjoyed the 6-8 players as well, but I think it should be locked to start till 6 players are in. Headhunters traveled solo or doubles, we could do the same!

halo reach version 100%

ODST style Firefight is by far the best one.
