Which DLC should be made free?

After reading a few topics about “free DLC” it had occurred to me that even Brink received free DLC (albeit for 2 weeks) as more less as an apology to how terrible that game was at launch.

Back to Halo, during Bungie’s tenure the Heroic Map Pack was made free 3 or so months after its release and we later received Cold Storage for no extra charge. As a result they were able to have DLC reqs in playlists.

As stated in previous threads, having a cost behind DLC fractures the community, something which Halo 4 can simply not sustain.

I think removing the cost for one map pack is a great idea to get some players back, whether its people coming to get the DLC or its people who’ve always had the DLC, but never been able to play it.

From 343’s standpoint, I think it’s more within the realm of possibility to have one free map pack as opposed to all of them.

Free DLC has the potential for ruin.
A: People who bought the map pass will complain about it, probably drive them away.
B: Not many people who left are even paying any attention to this game. If this was to get out, it would have to be big release. Like found in every corner of the internet and news release.
C: What is the point of any DLC, if most people don’t play the maps on a sub-regular basis?

A. Um not true because the ones who paid for it already played them cant play them now and would just make everyone who bought them happy. I bought limited edition.
B. That also isnt true. Thousands still play and those prompted messages when you play halo 4 telling you playlist updates let players know. So the whole “no on pays attention” thing doesnt make sense.
C. Point of DLC is so though who paid for it can play something new and not the same maps over and over again. Again, people still do play this game frequently. Just because its not a lot doesnt mean that the community that is still here shouldnt be forgotten.

I would love to play the DLC and i could care less if its free because then at least i could still play it. Heck i wish halo 3 DLC was free so i could play with my friends without them having to purchase a game that came out in 2007. lol

A: That’s true enough and I certainly don’t speak for all, but as a map pass holder myself I would just like to be able to play the maps, irrespective of what they cost now. However, I have seen (from map pass holders or people who just paid individually) a deal of support to free dlc whenever it’s in question. A map pack pass is like zimbabwean currency now, worthless.

B: I believe for the people who are still with Halo, but left Halo 4 for reasons that include the dreary map rotation (playing Ragnarok 5 times in a row) or were unsatisfied with 343’s slow response to DLC matchmaking, will see this as an opportunity to play again.

C: What do you mean?

Just getting back into Halo 4 after a long hiatus, noticed the lack of DLC playlists. Now I’m on the forums and I’m getting the implication that that DLC maps in standard playlists are a rarity? This game is a joke. 343 Industries can suck a -Yoink-.

Looking at all the people who bought the map packs, they complain and complain that the DLC only shows up once every 20 or so matches. I have yet to see this phenomena for myself, but if you buy DLC, most people expect to play it at least once out of every three or so matches.
That is what I mean.
