Which automatic primary do you prefer?

Which do you prefer/is the best for close to mid range?
AR/Suppressor/Storm Rifle?
I’m sorta debating between the assault rifle and suppressor at the moment

AR
it has the longest range in it’s niche

Assault rifle, the only human rifle next to the BR that takes skill.

The AR.

The Assault Rifle.

UNSC ALL THE WAY BABY!

Suppressor, because I always get extremely close to the enemy, and nothing can beat the Suppressor at that range other than a shotgun.

> A DMR or BR can easily beat an automatic no matter the situation.

then obviously, you’ve played against some terrible Automatic users

Automatics eat anyone alive at close range

Um … the Boltshot

Storm rifle, I f*** -Yoink- up with it

AR or Storm Rifle are both OK.

“Um … the Boltshot :/”

The Boltshot’s charge is a shotgun blast…

This.

Exactly :stuck_out_tongue:

The suppressor is the best overall in my opinion. You just have to get really close and maintain your aim.

Also on a side note, the assault weapons take more skill to use then the precision weapons in this game

The BS has more range.

Suppressor is better IMO.

I guess I’ll give some advice regarding these.

1. I personally don’t use them unless with Firepower as a Tactical Package with a Precision Weapon, as the secondaries are close range and it is redundant to have 2 CQC weapons at once. However, on some maps you may be able to get away with it, but not against skilled players.

2. With #1 in mind, choose an automatic depending on the range of your precision weapon. These are all recommendations, take them with a grain of salt if you wish.
The BR is the best at closer ranges, so a Storm Rifle or Suppressor is best.

The DMR is good all around but slightly worse in CQC in most players hands. Your preference there depending on your aim.

The Carbine isn’t very good (at closer ranges). Use it with an AR.

The Light Rifle is a longer range gun. Use it with an AR as well.

3. Don’t be predictable. Strafe and jump at them. I use Bumper Jumper partly for this reason.

4. Don’t overestimate their range.

5. A tactic I love to do with any of them but particularly the Storm Rifle is jump around a corner as they walk by, shoot the few bullets needed to get a one hit melee kill, and then pummel. I time the jump so I land on their face or even on top of them, as they won’t expect it and may not pummel back. It works incredibly well, although less so against skilled players, but it is hilarious to pull on noobs.

6. Keep the reticule on them, aimed at center mass. Although they are easy to aim, many of the bullets will miss if you have only the edge on them.

With that said, I use all of them but the Suppressor. I find it too inaccurate for me, so I usually wind up getting kills at around the same time as the others, despite it having less range.

Double post fail… Sorry

On small to medium maps… I cheat. Use Firepower to carry two primary weapons

Using a DMR and an AR means you are prepared for any range.

Pretty much this. But instead of bumper jumper… Boxer set up is a beast at cqc. I used bumper jumper in halo 3… But with Reach and Halo 4 both having jetpack… Boxer is a very practical choice.
