I’m not talking about the general artstyle, as Infinite seems to have its own for now. I’m talking about the artstyle of individual pieces, especially helmets.
Correct me if I’m wrong but I remember 343 saying they’ll eventually have every armor from every halo in infinite.
This brings up armors like HAZOP, EVA, EOD and GUNGNIR which look different game to game.
Which do you prefer, 3, Reach or 4/5’s armor, and why? Also which would you like to see in Infinite?
Personally Reach is my favorite artstyle, but I don’t like the way Reach armor fits Infinite, like that Grenadier (Jorge) spartan we saw a while back. Reach spartans were brick sh*thouses, they were bulky as all hell, whereas infinite is making the armor bulkier but the spartans themselves slimmer.
I always liked the recon set and used it in most halos since introduction in h3, i like the look of halo 4 recon the best even tho im not a huge fan of h4. So i will say im highly dissapointed in the look of the recon helmet in the infinite flight. it looks like the spartan ran face first into a brick wall and flatened the front of the face, it used to be angled in the front and now looks goofy and flat!
I’m looking forward to having the ODST armor coming back. I’m also excited about the armor kits like Jorge-052 and what that’ll mean for future customization too.
I think the CQB helmet is usually my favorite design and I think 343 has thrown it into screenshots already. Also hoping for the EOD design to look good.
Reach are also my favorites, I would like to see a nice variety of customization between the pieces and it looks like it is going on a very positive path. I’m enjoying what I’ve seen so far, I hope it’s possible to expand even more diversity of armor and combinations, with paintings and gestures as well.
I like Infinite’s.
It’s like Reach, but beefier. Reach had that sleek style going for it, so every Spartan looked kinda shapely, even the males. We went from that to the mess that was Halo 4.
Infinite seems more like a step back to Halo 3, where the base armor itself is blocky, rectangular, and makes the Spartan look sturdy.
Infinite combines the body shape of Reach with the sturdy blocky shape of Halo 3, which looks fantastic.
I don’t think anyone from 343 ever confirmed that they will attempt to bring every armor piece from Halo’s past back. However, I do dig how the Reach armors will look almost cut and pasted out of that game (albeit with better resolutions and cleaner models). But as Infinite is particular about going to a more classic overall art style, and Halo 4 and 5’s torso, wrist, and leg customizations clash with Infinite’s “armor core” system, I don’t think we are going to see a lot of armor return in the art style of those games. Rather returning armor from those games will likely be added to the Mark VII cores, and have a similar design philosophy to the stuff we’ve used in the tech previews so far. Like the Mark VII versions of Aviator and Recon.
When they eventually do a Mark VI core, I fully expect it to be almost exclusively Halo 3 armor in an updated Halo 3 artstyle. With new additions only really used to fill out the wrist, utility, and hand attachments.
I have a theory that we’ll actually have multiple variants of each (or at least many) helmet, each variant being tied to their respective armor core. So far we have seen:
Mark V (from Reach for the Mark V core) and Mark V Zeta (new variant, for Mark VII (Gen-3) core)
ODST (from 3/reach for Mark V core) and Firefall (Halo 2 style ODST) (for Mark VII (gen-3) core)
Scout (from Reach for Mark V core) and Celox (scout gen-3)(for Mark VII core)
EVA (Reach) and Zvezda (Mark VII)(this one is a bit of a stretch, as the design is similar, but the in-lore function is different) - EOD (reach), EOD (gen-3), and an unknown variant (fractures) -
we also know of some designs for armors that are returning that will most likely have alternate versions for other cores:
Trailblazer (Recon Gen-3)- most likely will also have Recon from Reach for Mark V core
Gungnir (Gen-3)- most likely will have version for Mark V core

I find Infinite’s spartans a lot less beefy than Reach. The armor pieces are large and bulky, but they’re put on very slim spartans.
I personally love the helioskrill halo 5 armor and hope that comes back. I do hope your right about every armor from all games but I also have not read that anywhere. I would also agree that reach was the best for armor out of all the games.
The one glaring issue with Reach armors is that armor design in Reach has a clear “I hate shoulders” syndrome across all the designs.
All Shoulder armor pieces look extremely detached and unfitting, and you look the best with no Shoulders or small Shoulders.
Example is EVA Shoulders in Reach compared to H3 EVA shoulders.
Like wooo Reach EVA shoulders look like they are just stuck on with magnets.
Other than that, Reach armors look great, though it’s kinda clear that Infinite is going for the H3 style of Armors.
Hopefully down the line everyone can get what they desire/accept, including the Halo 4/5 people who like the whole Elite-sleek style of armors they have going for them.
