Where do you think we would be if Halo never existed? How do you think FPS games would be? Do you think Xbox would still be where it is today?

Playing Fallout, Dead Rising and most of all… Pokemon
For me at least
While it was Halo that made console shooters “work”, I feel like it was more of a lucky timing deal, instead of a revolutionary one. I think modern FPS games would be at about the same point, but who knows which ideas were inspired by Halo as time went on? Custom games? Regenerating health/shields? Matchmaking? Player customization? Moas?
Honestly, without Halo and Halo 2, I feel like the Xbox might have failed. If nothing else, it wouldn’t be nearly as successful, unless they had picked up a different launch title. And that raises another interesting point, what title could be living the Halo life right now?
Without Halo, I have no idea where I’d be. I can say with certainty Halo helped me get through some -Yoink- in my life. Not so much the game, but the community. What would my hobbies even be? Right now they include watching Halo on Youtube, talking about Halo here, editing Halo videos, and playing Halo for the rest of it. Occasionally my friends will drag me to the beach or some -Yoink-. Being a nerd with non-nerd friends can be frustrating.
The PlayStation would rule the gaming world with the Nintendo trailing behind it. I understand the PC would be in there too, but I really don’t think there would be as many gamers as there is now.
Thus with Sony ruling the entire console population, they would not have competition and so that would mean low quality games.
I really don’t care what anyone says. Without Halo the gaming industry just wouldnt be what it is.
I would be a PlayStation guy. Battlefield 3 would be my main game (Until that game released, CoD). I would not play games as much as I do. Probably not even close. I don’t even know what my hobby would be then. And I wouldn’t be a nerd.
As for where Xbox would be, well Halo 1 was the biggest selling point as to why you wanted an Xbox. Then Halo 2 was the biggest reason why you wanted Xbox LIVE. Without those two, PlayStation would be at the top. Xbox wouldn’t be as competitive as it is now.
I think FPS games would’ve eventually ended up where they are now. It just would’ve been way later.
Stranded in space,Halo saved me once.
true story.
Still playing Goldeneye or Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.
-No regenerating health in shooters.
-Online console shooters would never be as popular as they are today.
-Call of Duty would not be the blockbuster it is now.
-The Xbox would have flopped.
-Consoles would be much less media-focused.
-We wouldn’t have luxuries such as dedicated melee and grenade buttons.
Personally, i would have been on the path of Nintendo, i have “progressed” as far as the Gamecube, but Halo was much to engaging so i permanently stayed with the Xbox.
I would probably be playing Zelda and mario right now, Halo was my first and only FPS so COD and those other FPS games would never have had my attention and today they still don’t.
I spent a good portion of my childhood in front of the N64 and GameCube, and I would have likely continued primarily playing Nintendo systems had I not found Halo.
Halo was also a big form of escapism during some rough times in my life. The people I played it with really helped me to not focus on some of the stuff that was happening around me, and I could just get lost in the expansiveness of the Halo universe!
I think Halo was also what made the Xbox what it is today. Without it, I think the Xbox would have flopped.
I wouldn’t be typing this response.
But, actually… I’m not sure where I personally would be. Xbox likely wouldn’t be nearly as good as it is before, and I think thats been covered pretty well by those above.
Xbox would have failed. -Yoink!- would have back pedaled out of the gaming industry.
EA might not have gained the momentum they needed to make Online passes spread among the gaming world.

There’s probably a universe out there were Halo never existed.
I’d continue playing Nintendo or even have moved on to PlayStation.
I wouldn’t have had those awesome pizza parties with my friends.
I have bonded and met so many cool people through pursuing common interests such as Halo, I just couldn’t imagine what would have happened without this amazing franchise in my life.

A moment of silence for those who were never able to experience Marty and Salvatori’s amazing soundtracks, the incredible story, legendary campaigns, multiplayer modes, and wonderful pizza parties.
-sits down in shock dumb struck- i…i dunno. What is life without halo?
JK. Seriously? i was raised on nintendo. Halo wasn’t my first game on the xbox actually. If i remember it was mech assault. Was also my first online experience.
But my first shooter/online FPS was halo.
If halo never existed i’d probably still be on nintendo. The only series from playstation that ever really grabbed me was final fantasy. Considering it started in nintendo and is now not platform restricted i’d still be on nintendo.
Halo really opened me up into the genre of FPS and was how i got into battlefield gears of war and call of duty. I do play some RPG’s as well but i’m mainly an FPS guy. The only series i got really into besides halo was guitar hero/rockband for the longest time.
well half life would have probably been the go to first person shooter, there wouldn’t have been any regenerating health, cod would not have a market because all of the casuals wouldn’t have started playing fps when halo 2 came out. regenerating health would be non existent because it wouldn’t make sense from a game play perspective because of the lack of tension.
I don’t want to think about it.
There are some people that I probably wouldn’t have met.
Playing playstation. Halo is the reason I switched.
I’d be using ps3.
