Where will Halo Infinite take the series?

Since E3, I’ve seen a lot of posts on here and multiple videos stating that “Halo is back.” This is mainly because of the more mysterious nature of the trailer and the return of a more iconic art style that was stated in the post a few days ago. While I am excited for what Infinite may hold, I believe people need to tone back the hype and look at this from a realistic standpoint. We have a trailer that clearly states that it was a engine demonstration and, based on that trailer, we have people in the community saying that classic Halo is back. What I want to do is look at what we know, what type of game Infinite may be based off past Halos and have a discussion on the subject.

What we know

  • Splitscreen is returning in FPS Halo games - Art style based on the past while mixing in the current (I am making that conclusion based on the marines carrying the Halo 5 BR and that 4/5 Warthog) - The promise of simpler stories (Which I am assuming that means not having to read external material) - This is what people really need to remember. Teaser trailers in the past have NOT always connected to the game. Remember that trailer for Halo on Xbox One that had Master Chief walking through the desert in a poncho and everyone thought he was on the Ark? Everyone got excited thinking we were going to the Ark again and we never went. Remember Hunt The Truth? I am saying this because people are believing we are going to Zeta Halo (which we could be. I’m not saying we aren’t) and are basing this off of clues in a trailer to show off an engine. We are having discussions on what the glyphs say, who the AI on the chip is, why we are on Zeta Halo, and the two favorites on here, Mendicant Bias and the Flood. What type of game Infinite may be

  • I see Infinite going in one of two ways gameplay wise. Either we have a return to classic gameplay or the enhanced movement stays. This is another thing that I don’t understand. We have people saying that classic gameplay is back because of how Chief looks in the trailer. The one thing that Halo 5 was praised for was its gameplay, saying it was the tightest gameplay in the series. There is no indication that thrust, charge, clamber, ground pound or sprint is leaving. I would like to see classic gameplay but I don’t see it happening. - The story. After the dumpster fire of a campaign that was 5, 343 has their work cut out for them. I honestly don’t see how they could turn it around. The impact of 4’s more personal story and huge ending was erased within the first few missions. Cortana goes from a machine dealing with insanity and death to a robot overlord with a race of AI behind her. I don’t see what they could do honestly. I want them to try and save the story because right now it is not looking good. - The campaign itself. It’ll either be a traditional Halo game or a more open game compared to its predecessors. - The multiplayer. This is directly tied to the gameplay. If classic gameplay returns, then the maps will be more diverse I think. If modern gameplay returns, expect 5 all over again. I hope that Warzone is gone. It was basically a MOBA and it just didn’t feel like Halo. Just make a Big Team variant that has a high player count with maps dedicated to it, not Forge maps that the community has to create. - Extra stuff. I would like to see Firefight return. Forge needs to be there day 1 with a file browser. Campaign theater. Customization that isn’t based upon randomness. Challenges akin to Reach. I hope they add a codex to campaign so people can get backstory on certain things without having to read external material. Now, I’d like to hear what you guys have to say about where we are heading with this game.

I agree with all that but 343 I believe specifically said that there are clues to the story in the trailer such as the morse code that translates to zeta halo I think a codex would be a good idea for the fans that only play the game would really help them understand whats going on such as why we are doing so and so objective firefight I agree should come back would be just weird to see chief in his classic armor doing things like thrusters etc we know that halo wars 2 will tie in somehow the end of the trailer seems to imply chief is getting a brand new AI as for that 2013 trailer that wasn’t really announcing halo 5 as that was basically announcing the franchise is coming to xbox one so this trailer is likely connected to the game as for gameplay I have no idea im excited for the game and I plan on picking it up day 1 which is probably late next year or early 2020

What I was trying to say was that even though we have clues in the trailer, there’s no guarantee that it will be in the game. There marketing for Halo 5 is big reason why I believe this. The marketing made it sound like it would be a spy thriller with Chief turning rogue and Locke hunting him down. Then we get to the game and Chief isn’t like he was at the end of 4, Locke isn’t some assassin, there’s no story elements about how MC died like the marketing alluded to, and ONI is not this organization trying to bury the truth.

There are clues in the trailer, there no doubt about it. My point is to not read too far into what is happening in a game engine demo.

I doubt they would do that again after the backlash

I just hope they don’t change the weapons and shot rate after two+ years. When they changed the BR in Halo 5… For me… It killed the game. Haven’t really been back since.

I am super excited for this new Halo game. I have high expectations that this will be as fun as Halo 3.

I doubt it as well but it’s just healthy skepticism. I’m just curious to see how it’ll play. I wonder if it’ll be 5’s gameplay or if they’ll go back to classic. What would nice for them to do is bring in fans as a focus group. Show them what they have come up with and see what the community has to say

I agree its very interesting times

I’m not sure

Hard to say til gameplay and the story direction is shown.

i absolutely Agee that ultimately the teaser doesn’t mean we’ll be on a halo and such, H5 proved that, even the original games had some false narratives to them, things can easily change from the time they’re shown to when the game is out.

as for my assumption/speculation on where infinite will take them: again, it’s hard to say till more is shown, but given 343s nature and stubbornness I expect infinite to just continue downward regression of the franchise like the last 3 games have, they’ll need to show they’ve learned and change things for it to not drop, that it at least do enough where it stagnates around what H5 did. I myself have little interest in the game because I had little interest in the previous few, but I’ll be watching to at least see what’s up when it hits. It’ll take more than old school art style to get me interested, I want the gameplay to also ditch generic mediocrity.

I myself have little interest in the game because I had little interest in the previous few, but I’ll be watching to at least see what’s up when it hits. It’ll take more than old school art style to get me interested, I want the gameplay to also ditch generic mediocrity.

They need to stop following trends and focus on what made halo great. Sonic went back to its roots with sonic mania and it was amazing. COD and battlefield went back to the world war eras (cod WWII was garbage for totally other reasons) and Zelda breath of the wild is commonly referred to as the best Zelda game out their right now even though the didn’t shake up the gameplay. Why can’t halo do this? Of course the one trend some have been asking for is the one thing 343 won’t do. Theirs no better opportunity to go back to halos roots then this. I like sprint and I liked reach and h4s multiplayer even though they had obvious problems but enough is enough.

I want to say that a portion of the campaign’s setting may be on Zeta Halo (Installation 07)
