Okay so first thing that came to mind even before having my first Halo Wars 2 match was “Oh my god I can’t wait to play as the new leader”. Only to realize that when you choose the leader character, the only thing he does is have a voice in the background, the only leader that you see that comes out and fights is a normal Chieftain… I was shocked, I don’t like choosing a leader then playing as a completely different character when actually in game it just ruins the experience of choosing the leader. We don’t choose to be certain leaders just to hear their voice in the background it’s just utter crap. I know it’s still in Beta and I hope they realize that it is -Yoink- and change it to the way it should be like the original Halo Wars. By that I mean playing as the leader you actually choose, not just choose them to hear their voice in the background. I also wasn’t a fan of the Beta map, it was quite basic and horrible and the reason I bring this up is due to the fact that the original Halo Wars had such a great map in their demo, this Halo Wars 2 Beta map is just a blob of wasteland and extremely basic Forerunner structures here and there. Anyway apart from all that the Beta wasn’t the best. If they allow you to play as the actual Covenant leader you choose then that would make it slightly better, but then again the leader is piss weak as well in combat, he was practically useless in my opinion apart from when there were infantry at the start of the game, then the tanks and air units come later during the game and there is no point of him even being there. So things that need changes 1) Let us play the bloody leader we choose since we don’t choose them to play an entirely different leader when in game and hear them say unnecessary crap in the background. 2) Have decent maps when the game actually releases, I don’t want to see this wasteland crap with no mountains or anything. 3) Give the leader a buff he is so weak that it’s laughable. Then Halo Wars 2 may have a chance of being a decent game and what was expected.
Have you even played halo wars 1?!
Yes and I am a General in the game. In the original Halo Wars when you chose a Covenant Leader you actually get to use the in the Battlefield. You can’t use the new Brute Leader, he just speaks in the background. He doesn’t come out into the battlefield and fight as they did in the original Halo Wars. When you build the new so called Leader Temple, instead of the new Brute Leader that should appear a random Brute appears that is a completely different character. Now you tell me how you didn’t understand that in the first post?

Dude just because your a General does not mean your opinion is anymore important than the next guy.
It appears leaders and uber units are out of the game. They have been replaced with “heros” who are powerful standard units, like your mentioned Brute Chieftain and Spartan Jerome.

I never said it means my opinion is more superior? By being a General I meant I have played the original Halo Wars and am experienced due to the fact that he asked “Have you even played halo wars 1?!”. So I recommend you read all comments carefully before making the assumption that I am imposing that I have a superior opinion.

Did you really have to add that general part in though? It would be like saying “I know that sprint sucks because I have recon in halo 3”
Sprint does suck though.

He does, because it gives you a little approximation at the knowledge he has of the game.
Having recon in halo 3 doesn’t give you information about anything other than luck (For original recon) or ability to get a few people to do nonsensical tasks in PVE content (not including 7 on 7 or lightswitch, yes they were online, but took little to no effort to complete)
Atleast with him saying he’s max rank, we can gauge that hes put the time in, especially considering how unforgiving RTS’s are online.
OP I don’t know why they took away the ability to control the alien leaders. HW2 is way too different from the original. Even though I mostly used Anders, I still get why you would be disappointed.
Also it makes sense why you would say you are a general in HW1.
Pretty sure you’ll be able to make those Brute Scarab walker thing in the game, but it comes with a different leader I’d guess.
That Brute Warlord? That’s the leader.
You see Jerome over there? He’s the leader of Red team… he’s a hero unit for the UNSC.
There’s two other Brute warlords/chieftains on the concept art. One has a sword. And the other is behind Atriox’s hammer so… I can’t really tell. https://gamingtreehouse.files.wordpress.com/2016/06/img_4841.jpg
Those are probably the three Banished leaders… which means we probably won’t see covenant.
I think what OP was referring to was for example pressing the Y button as an alien leader then rotating the Right Stick to go into a special fighting mode.

I also see a scarab, but that doesn’t mean I can build one. Concept art isn’t always an accurate depiction of game content.
We still have other playable leaders to come. We could still see the return of a leader on the field and even scarabs.
Its a beta, not everything is available right now. It was same situation with halo wars 1. In that beta you did not have access to everything.
Also, choosing a leader is pretty important when considering the skill tree they introduced, which adds a lot more diversity for each leader. Yeah it sucks you can’t play as the actal covenant leaders like in halo wars 1, but we’ll have to see how things are with the actual release.

Neither is a beta that’s 8 months from release. It’s pretty obvious that there will be a fair amount of other stuff that we have not seen yet. For example, we’ve seen Ghosts in screenshots, but they’re not in the beta. Does that mean that Ghosts just aren’t a part of the game? Of course not.
Halo 5 didn’t have any Covenant weapons other than the Sword in the beta. Did that mean that the final game wouldn’t have any Covenant weapons? Of course not. It was a beta, and so is this.

It’s not Concept Art… it’s Cover Art.
Why would they put them on the Cover Art if you can’t build them? It also says in the tutorial video ‘uber’ and ‘heroes’ or something along those lines… OR DID YOU NEGLECT TO WATCH IT?!
I think it was just a filler for now. Pretty sure in the future he will be in, along with a majority of combat leaders.
The leaders in the first game made it unbalanced most of the time. So I’m not surprised there not in 2.

Considering 75% of people have to skip the tutrial to avoid crashing the game, no I didn’t watch it lol. I was familiar enough with the controls as it is.
Ps even you referred to it as concept art in your original post.
Pps. Unless you’re an undercover CA employee you have no idea whether or not this is the official cover art or not.
Ppps heros are your covie chieftains and spartans, ubers are your leader specific units. ODSTs, sparrowhawks, etc.
