So we have seen the Commando, a weapon that is a sort of 3-way hybrid between the AR, the BR, and the DMR. Both the AR and BR have already been seen in the game, but what about the DMR? The Commando’s role as a weapon that clearly is automatic (I heard that it has multiple firing types depending on if its zoomed and things like that but I’m not sure) does not interfere with the DMR’s non-power long-range precision weapon role. We have not seen a weapon of any type suitable to replace the DMR form either the UNSC or the Banished. So where did it go? I would expect one of the most widely used weapons in Halo Reach, Halo 4, and Halo 5 to at least get SOME attention in Halo Infinite. We have gotten plenty of glimpses at other weapons but where is the DMR or a replacement for it?
I have never been a big fan of the DMR, but leaving a gaping hole in the sandbox is not ideal for a releasable game.
So what do you guys think, do you think that its been replaced but we haven’t seen its replacement, hasn’t been prioritized so has not been shown off yet, or Infinite doesn’t have any weapon to occupy that role yet?
If tthe DMR gets brought back, it needs to feel more powerful than it had before. Something truly between a sniper and the br. Otherwise, the BR makes the DMR redundant.

I agree, I feel like another thing they should do along with it is to dramatically reduce its firing rate to make it absolutely obsolete in close-range encounters and require skill to compete in mid-range to help make it different from the BR which can compete in most ranges.

That’s actually very smart, by slowing the rate of fire it won’t be such a buffed weapon.

alternatively, the fire rate can be left alone if the magnetism is heavily reduced and the precision was made very tight, requiring as much skill as the sniper rifle to hit an opponent at CQC distance.
DMR is big gone. Maybe the weapon between the BR and Sniper that people seem to be clamoring for will be the Stalker Rifle, which we haven’t seen in game at all yet.
I really don’t it’s necessary as it provides too much sandbox clutter. Without drastically changing it, it remains as an obsolete weapon as several others will take its niche and leave it in an award position of being the extra unnecessary precision weapon like 4.5

At that point, though, why not just use a Sniper? Yes the DMR might be more available, but the two would end up in the same niche with the Sniper filling it better.

I’ve been saying this for ages and people always argue with me about it. It’s the most logical way of implementing the DMR though, you’re right, and it’s crazy that people think it’s perfectly fine in 4 and 5. It’s fire rate is so high in those games that it doesn’t struggle at closer ranges, when the fire rate should be closer to the sniper rifle.

I don’t think you’re fully comprehending the changes people here want to be made to the DMR. The reason people would use the DMR over the Sniper Rifle is because the former would still be much more forgiving, and versatile too (albeit not to the extent that it dominates the BR and AR). The sniper rifle has only four shots and a slower fire rate than the DMR, so you have to be pretty precise with it. The DMR on the other hand is much more straightforward to use given that you have a much bigger magazine and a slightly hire fire rate. They wouldn’t infringe on each other at all.
It’s looking probable that the VK78 has replaced the DMR. However we’ve only seen a small portion of the sandbox so far. Fuel rod gun, SMG, Spartan Laser, All the promethean weapons(though by the looks of it their probably not in at all, though the heatwave looks to be forerunner), Beam rifle, carbine, etc are all still MIA.
A fair portion of the player base likes the DMR, so I think it’ll appear and it doesn’t matter if it overlaps with the BR a bit. I hope though that the reach model is the version that makes it in(or is based on it more than the 4/5 version). Though it’s also possible that the DMR, along with the Magnum and classic shotgun, will be brought on later.
there is still hope for the DMR. So far 343 have been doing well listening to feedback, so I doubt they’d leave it out with its popularity in the halo community.

It could also easily be skinned into the game, although I doubt 343 would do that.

What he suggested is basically just a weaker Sniper Rifle with a larger clip size, which is basically what the DMR already is, no amount of stat changes will fix that. It would be extremely redundant to include the DMR, as we already have 2 loadout weapons filling roughly the same effective range: the BR and the Commando. If you want long-range combat, use a Sniper, that’s it sole purpose. We don’t need any more ranged weapon redundancy.
Dmr are became my favorite weapon to fit my play style. It seems like we won’t be getting it but I will try out their new alternative to see if I like that. If not I guess I can go back to the BR

you could say the same thing about alot of games. Titanfall 2, Battlefield and most other FPS games for that matter have numerous weapons that are objectively redundant in terms of their combat role. Halo is no special exception to this rule, numerous weapons objectively speaking perform a similar or identical role to other weapons in the sandbox. So to make a exception for ONE gun is basically pointless. Giving players a choice to use weapons that fit closer to their chosen play style isn’t a bad thing. While you may prefer to duke it out in close to mid range with the BR, someone else may prefer to brawl with the Commando or provide accurate long range fire with a DMR to support a teammate.
At the end of the day, having the choice of BR, DMR(light rifle, stalker rifle(maybe), Covenant Carbine/needle rifle) or commando is something that won’t hurt the game.
