Where is "Home"?

In Discover Hope when the pilot powers Chief’s suit on, he celebrates, saying “We’re going home!” Where is a home that he’d want to return to? The Created seemingly have every corner of the galaxy under their control. The Infinity is a possibility but when he says “We lost everything” does that include Infinity?

Well, a home is always a home, even under invasion. So it could pretty much mean any place habited by humans. Most likely a place he was born in but could also be some other place he now lives, for example if there is a case he switched planet which he lives on to live with his family. Who knows.

This brings up an important question of what the Pilot was doing in space in the first place. The trailer shows a time passage of at least a couple months with the beard growth, so why was the Pilot out there for long? Is it because he was searching for Chief?

Looks like a month of beard in my eye but people have different speeds of time which beard grows.
So since he is in a pelican it basically means he could have been, for one, in regular patrol when the some EMP hit, likely not in battle given there seems to be no other ships around. There are many possibilities as to why he is there but he seems more like stranded and not there by his own free will.
Maybe even a scout for resistance against AI control? Attempting to escape the total control to reunite with his family? We’ll see in time.

That was my initial thinking, with no concept of his beard growth speed haha, but then why does he say “we’re going home”? Is it because whatever the situation, he thinks Chief will save him? Or is it because that’s his mission.

It would be just curious reaction when his pelican seems to be pretty much trashed, hence why the Chief saw the need to jump from the pelican, so perhaps it’s his trust on SPARTANs abilities to solve emergency situations. Otherwise it wouldn’t really make sense for Chief to jump.
In addition he seemed to be distressed when noticing that there are friendly signals nearby, I could see him reacting like that if he had mission to recover Chief but being stranded in a pelican changes the situation.
But thats just my speculation.

Probably just means wherever they were forced to hide to avoid detection from Cortana’s forces. In this case I believe it’s more like a ‘refuge’ home so it’s mostly a planet on the outskirts of where Cortana may not have explored since the Infinity would need to get some space away from her forces since they are going to be overwhelming, I don’t believe the ‘home’ is the Infinity since after a while most marines will want to live on a planet due to Infinity being too claustrophobic plus I suspect the ship itself will probably be destroyed at the start of Halo Infinite since the pilot said they lost everything, I believe he was talking about the Infinity since it was probably too powerful and was probably defeated by the combined force of the ‘new’ revived Covenant under Cortana’s rule and her Guardians and suspect she may also have retaken Genesis since the combined force should in theory be enough to retake it.

Part of the reason why I think the Infinity will be destroyed is because it was too powerful, kind of counters the need to have ‘hope’ since it was too op for own it’s good while the pre-343i era of Halo had marines, etc… fighting for survival, it felt like there was a serious threat that needed to be countered and with Infinity…it’s hard to catch that feeling with it’s existence. So I believe 343i are trying to find a way to ‘level the plane field’ again then find a way to balance the scales so there is ‘hope’ after a major defeat, that’s why I feel like Infinity’s destruction at the start will be the beginning of the feeling of ‘hope’ as things change. While with H5 I don’t feel the Covenant was being taken seriously anymore. I wouldn’t be surprised if some of them called the new ‘Halo’…home.

According to Captain Lasky “…I’ve always thought of earth as home.”

It would be weird if infinity truly was destroyed offscreen, obviously possible but I dont think it that probable.
The “too powerful” part is at least something I wouldn’t think as the reason for its offscreen destruction for it’s set against forerunner technology which basically is the most powerful discovered technology given all we have seen left behind of precursors is biological threat, at least from what could be considered powerful in a militaristic way type of thing we have seen from precursors.

Could be the UNSC Infinity, there could be many references related to Home. Maybe he was part of a reconnaissance group that took an EMP from the Created and was marooned for so long.

I suspect we might see the destruction later on via recordings or maybe there’s more to the intro that we haven’t seen yet. Since it’s 343i’s biggest launch…I suspect we could see something like a massive scale fight at the start, I believe the intro was used to hide facts that may spoil this.

I don’t feel like the Forerunner tech is the only reason why it’s seen as overpowered. The main concern is it’s huge and it can literally drive straight through ships like there nothing, I still remember the ship ramming them out of the way like they were nothing. I miss when the ships were similar sizes and actually felt like each had a sort of chance, Unsc had to try to adapt but with H5 it made the Covenant feel like a joke and the ship itself was created in a time where humanity was on the brink of a near extinction level event and humanity were ‘lucky’ to have survived from Earth being fully glassed, it made the Covenant seem like they had no idea how to use the ‘Forerunner’ tech when had they countless civilisations learning/improving, judging by the things they’ve done there not clueless either also…come to think of it the Covenant had what seemed like an infinite amount of resources, seemed like they had nothing on that scale that could counter it. Pretty sure if the Covenant wanted then they could have easily created multiply ‘Infinity’ class’s in a shorten time than the Unsc.

Home is where the heart is.

Infinity definitely is overpowered when compared to post covenant storm covenant vessels but against all the guardians and all that, it doesn’t seem that powerful when put into that scale what AIs control now.
And covenant did have supercarriersin the time of the war against humanity which were huge killing machines, covenant cruiser looked like a pin needle when compared to one such specimen in Reach and cruiser obviously is around the size of UNSC frigate, around, not exactly.
But obviously I see stories where humanity is the underdog which was the case in the original trilogy, where humanity could gain victories even on ground, they got their ships pretty much wrecked when put against covenant technology in many cases, with obvious exceptions.

Though humanity has had powerful gear before like MAC cannon stations defending earth, for one. But obviously nothing in the scale of infinity. Infinity, I think, was pretty much representation of rebuilding of humanity and even advancing it, though it was completed weirdly fast when considering humanity also had to rebuild civilization simultaneously after the war. It was simply absurdly powerful considering the circumstances.

But nevertheless it’s part of the story now, no matter its origin. So I wouldnt be surprised to see infinity destroyed, I simply would expect to see it in the game, like you mentioned for example.
So, given that enemy has forerunner technology, I would still see infinity as clear underdog given 1 dreadnought was easily able to power high charity itself in it’s time. So I still dont see Infinity being too powerful as a reason to destroy it. It’s a galaxy wide war and Infinity is simply 1 ship.

His family most likely. Understandably, anywhere is better then being alone, drifting in space.

Sangheilos, though really guessing Earth. I am actually curious how he lived for a good period of time on that pelican. Wold have thought the air would have run out, even more when he picked up the Chief.

Wherever safe really…or wherever his family is

The Infinity or Earth, I would imagine. As Captain Cutter said in Halo Wars 2, the Spirit of Fire is the crew’s home. You’d imagine Infinity’s crew would view their ship the same way, after the galaxy has been taken over by AI. Assuming he’s from the Infinity, of course.

I would be very disappointed if the Infinity was destroyed between games. It’d feel cheap. Far cheaper than Jul 'Mdama’s death. I’d be severely disappointed if it went down with all hands.

Considering the scale of the conflict, the Infinity isn’t OP.

Maybe he’s unaware of what’s going on and has no idea what’s going on. It’ll be interesting to see where exactly things are at. It sure seems like the war they’re fighting against The Forerunners is one they are currently losing but haven’t lost just yet.

The ways I see it, the Pilot was just a red herring as this trailer is not what you think it is oh surprise it is halo, a typical false flag cliché done with many trailers trying to capture that surprise moment for PR.
