WHERE IS FRIENDLY FIRE?

Through seemingly endless amounts of threads criticizing particular changes that are/have been made, I’ve seen zero mentioning of the disappearance of friendly fire.

First, why did it ever disappear? Second, why has it been left out of Halo 5: Guardians? Third (and lastly), WTF is the point of your teammates’ AI voiceover yelling at you for shooting them if it does nothing to them?

Nobody? I would hope most of you understand how dramatically the inclusion and absence of this one feature changes the way you play Halo (or any FPS for that matter).

Because no-friendly-fire is Noob friendly.

I agree friendly fire must come back. Maybe i won’t be nade spammed when im in the middle of a fight and be the only one to die. I stuck a friend in the face and he was unscathed.

This is the only conclusion I come to as well; just another attempt to not make players upset or discouraged. The removal of friendly fire, in my opinion, is the biggest nerfing of the skill factor out of all of the changes/additions that have been made/implemented since Halo 3.

Even Reach had Friendly Fire

If you pay attention you’ll see that teams of randoms playing together (which is the case more often than not) all play these games like they would a Rumble Pit match… They’ll spam nades on their teammates who are in a close-quarters match every time they get the chance, because they know they’ll more than likely get the kill without any penalty. It’s ridiculous. It’s just like the assassination animations…STILL in these games and STILL allows a teammate to shoot/kill the person you are assassinating all while STILL being unable to hurt you in the process.

If friendly fire was on and i got nade spammed during an assassination at least it would be a trade or even better a betrayal and a possible boot.

Apparently, the supporting systems for friendly fire (betrayals, stats etc) were not ready for the beta, so they simply disabled it. It’ll be back - don’t worry

Exactly. Regardless of the boot option, friendly fire discourages selfish play because it takes away one kill for every betrayal. Friendly fire encourages team-play because it forces you to be mindful of your teammates whereabouts/actions.

The negative effects due to removing friendly fire are so obvious I want to throw up every time I hear an employee of 343i say they want to make sure Halo 5 returns to it’s “arena/competitive” roots.

Right… Source? Until I know for a fact that friendly fire is a part of the game, I won’t be buying Halo 5. It’s one feature, and it completely alters how the game is played. Without it, I personally am not interested.

I’ll tell you right now that they do not intend to put friendly fire in Halo 5. They’re hoping the AI voiceover yelling at you for shooting/throwing a grenade near a teammate will suffice as a form of deterrent. If they intended to put friendly fire in this game, they would’ve never made those AI voiceovers in the first place, because they know that’d only encourage some people to screw with teammates.

Thank you. I still am skeptical for the reasons I already mentioned, but this at least gives me some hope. We’ll see…

I think it’s ridiculous. If you can’t damage your teammates, you can rocket or grenade wherever they’re at without penalty to kill whoever they’re engaging. It promotes reckless gameplay and discourages good planning/communication.

I see no reason to not add it? FF is a big part of Halo, people want it - they say they’re adding it. I don’t think the AI call outs are enough proof that they’re removing it.

I don’t disagree that it’s not enough proof… At the same time, given 343’s track record, I no longer allow myself to believe something simply because someone from 343 has said it. Hopefully once it releases, I’ll be able to get confirmation from someone on here that it is in fact part of the game.

Agreed 100%

i think that teaches you. Research before slating the devs for going “noob friendly” Not everything is ready for beta. Hence… beta

Sorry, I somehow missed that one response to one person out of literally tens of millions of Twitter users. Some people are “taught”, after being lied to over and over, that until something is actually in the game it’s not a part of the game.

Thanks for teaching me a lesson, though. I thought I was polite, and don’t recall myself ever stating with certainty that the developers were “going noob friendly”. I thought I simply asked a question about a missing feature within the beta, because I hadn’t found anything despite my reading through hundreds of threads in effort to find the information I was seeking. See, I thought I did my due diligence, or “research” as you call it.

Turns out I did…and you’re just a -Yoinking!- -Yoink-.
