After Captain Keyes is captured by the flood and before Cortana radios for evac where does Foehammer go? Does she just settle down the pelican and pray that the Master Chief/Cortana will call her for a ride? Is there a base in which the marines are nestled? I presume she is just waiting in the air realizing that she could be one of that last humans left on Halo.
The book Halo: The Flood answers that question, the Marines and ODST’s aboard the POA set up a base on Halo, I think it was called Alpha Base but don’t quote me.

Thats what I thought as well, but why don’t we ever see it in game? Why didn’t the cheif tell them that he is gonna blow the place to hell?

He did, the UNSC forces fixed the Truth and Reconciliation and used that to get off the planet but I don’t think they made it back, it’s been years since I read the book so I can’t remember the specifics.

I think the reason why the UNSC Marines that took the Truth and Reconcilliation never made it to Earth is because Silva wanted to bring the flood to Earth for study but Mckay knew the Flood would escape and infect everyone so she blew up the Truth and Reconcilliation to keep Earth safe.

Foehammer was probably on-station, which means she was flying around in the area waiting for either someone to call her for extraction or until she hit bingo fuel.
