I recently got my Xbox and haven’t played games in over 10 years. That being said, my skill level is very beginner. I started playing online in the Social games thinking people wouldn’t be so serious and I could practice and build my skills. I ended up being harassed out because one guy had to cary me though all the games. Is there another way to play multiplayer online without being in the way or was the guy who yelled at me out of line?
Just play Social Slayer, we all start somewhere or we all are rusty, ignore toxic people like that
Some people are just -Yoink-. Tell them to go play competitive if they care so much about winning. Playing with fun people is way more important to me than winning. As them why they feel the need to lash out at random people on the internet, lots of times their just miserable, lonely people who make themselves feel better by insulting others or defining their self-worth based on skill in a video game. Usually when you call these people out for what they are, they retreat back to their basement and shut up. Btw, you can also mute people.
Big team battle is the best place for noobies because there are lots of niches you can fill and not all of them involve combat skill. When my wife was new, she’s grab a shotgun and protect the flag. Once her confidence and skill was high enough, she started making attack runs and holding the line in the middle. Knowing the map is a major factor to success so just explore it and find where all the weapons and power ups spawn.
If you want to improve :
-
Play octagon - Octagon helps with your aim. A 10-15 minute octagon everyday with BR and Sniper will help you a lot - Watch videos/streams - If you want to see how others play and learn from them just watch some youtube videos or a stream on twitch - Play and don’t care - Play the game and ignore the people that yell at you, send you hate messages or are just being jerks. Each one is at a different level on the same ladder. Just play your game and keep in mind you are playing for yourself, to have fun, to learn, to better yourself. If you just want to have fun :
-
Try finding a group of people here on waypoint or search for a group on xbox. Lots of people play fun customs like Fat kid, Infection, Jenga Tower etc - Some people do late night plays on Friday or Saturday. Try getting in touch with them. - If you find someone in matchmaking and they seem cool invite them and play together.
Thanks for the feedback!
For me its purely for fun but I would like to be decent some day. I imagine with enough practice I will get there. My main concern was possibly playing somewhere I shouldn’t be with a beginner experience level.
I’d say playing big team battle is one way. Less pressure for every person to carry their weight.
Ignore the occasional jerk. When you get better, you’ll get messages ranting at you for beating them too. It’s just part of online gaming.
Any social playlist is good for beginners. Big team battle is a popular choice, you will get games quick and with 8 people, one poor performance isn’t going to do too much. That said you should only be dying 12-13 times in a game of slayer, that would be your fair share, in a 100 kill to win game. If you don’t want to be the reason your team loses the game, if the game is close and you find yourself dying a lot. Just hide somewhere. Even if you are not skilled, being smart goes a long way.
The guy who yelled at you was out of line, but I can understand the frustration, when you try your all only to lose because someone on your team died 20 times and didn’t get a kill. There is a fine line between being unskilled and griefing, playing to win is part of playing the game as intended. Others may not know that you are trying your best and just assume you’re griefing.
Also you will get hate mail regardless of your skill level. That’s just the nature of online gaming, don’t take it too seriously or personally.
Don’t worry about the negatives mate.
I remember getting sent messages after games that said’ this is not the game for you you should go play something else. ’
I’m a much better multi player now then I was then but The point is if you enjoy gaming play whatever mode you like the most
always .remember
None of the clowns that dish out the garbage online are anywhere near close to being pro.
If you want to play CE, you can play with me and my friends. We can show you the ropes. We really like searching with newer players on our team because it evens out the matches, but if someone’s in your party, they probably won’t quit out.
Just add me on XBL (same tag as here) and I’ll invite you if you’re on.
btb is mostly bad/new kids, plus you’re playing vs 8 people which gives you more engagements and the more fights you take = the faster you improve.
After a while you’ll be invited into groups like Metal God Hand just did. I’d take some of them up on that offer because a large part of Halo is just knowing where all the weapons are, knowing where the spawns are, and knowing how to do certain tricks. Those only come from experience. You’ll also get backup when someone is being a -Yoink-. If they send you a nasty message, report it, and tell your friends to do the same, or have your better friends show the idiot some humility. My wife is good now, but at the beginning, she was constantly getting messages saying how much she sucked, but the majority of them came from people who weren’t all that good themselves. So I’d message them to piss off and call out their own stats compared to mine. Some people are even worse and will simply kill new players to try and get them to quit. When you have friends, that backfires on them badly. It’s actually pretty amusing to see someone kill my wife’s character only to have four or five other teammates immediately snipe the betrayer.
Are you trying to play CE 4v4?
343 refuses to make it a ranked playlist, and simply ignores all requests for it [1]
They also put the custom game browser on the back burner, despite it being the #1 feature request [2]
They also don’t give any API access that could enable sub-communities to organize their own game nights and player data [3]
So we are stuck with a fragmented player base and misaligned expectations, waiting on the next spoonful from 343 hoping we will like the taste.
But they did add a skill-based parameter into the mix so maybe you’re minimum number of games needs to kick in.

When I play with my buddies for fun while having a few drinks, we play action sack. Ridiculous goofy fun
The guy who yelled at you was in the wrong - social games is social for a reason ; it exists for casuals and for people looking to play less competitively - I would personally suggest playing the campaigns first and foremost so that you get used to the controls and so you get a bit better - That could help but people shouldn’t be harassing you in social in the first place - Try some more matches ,see how they go,maybe mix up the modes you’re playing (eg players in SWAT are always more competitive )

Anyone who harasses you for not playing well should be reported immediately. I’m sorry you had that experience, and I hope it didn’t make you feel unwelcome in any way.
The best thing to play without worrying too much about your performance is probably Action Sack. The playlist is full of fun, wacky modes that don’t necessarily take any sort of skill. It’s just mindless fun. You can play it by going into Social Games and selecting the “Action Sack” game category. Each Halo game has special modes that are unqiue to it, so I encourage you to include all of them in your selection.
Happy Halo-ing!

When i got mcc i had played the original halo 3, 4 and reach online so i played halo 3 and 4 then moved into halo 2 and ce. Dont start with ce and 2 cause they can be daunting at first i mean like halo 2 has button combos like bxr and halo ce is just magnum spam. i recomend just ignoring -Yoinks!- as well cause everyone has their ups and downs on the game. So start with halo 4 cause it is easy then halo 3 and then 2 and ce.
The community isn’t in a great place now for welcoming beginners, and the skill base is filled with competent players. Don’t let that deter you.
I’d say Slayer is the most friendly place to be. Action sack and infection can also be good.
Finding a group to play with is a good way to start to learn the game. Feel free to add me if you need some folks to play with.
Awesome! I realized I had everything selected so wasn’t getting into Slayer initially. I just got on and it’s a lot more enjoyable while I figure things out. Will definitely check out the other recommendations as well and try to link up with those who offered when I figure that all out. I’m in Germany so not sure how that will line up time wise but knowing my older brother, time is sometimes irrelevant when it comes to online gaming.
I would start out with 4v4 Slayer. This is the best place to learn how each game plays and how most of the weapons work.
After that, play some Objective game types. This would teach you how to work as a team and show you different ways to play.
By now, you should probably know if you want to be competitive or just play for fun.
If you are the former, well MCC has plenty of ranked playlists to choose from.
If you are the latter (like your truly) Action Sack, BTB, and Infection is where you will get the most enjoyment.
Free-For-All (aka Rumble Pit) and Infection because you’re basically on your own team.
Outside of that for team play you may want to give the Action Sack modes a try and perhaps SWAT since it has a pretty high TTK and should re-enforce the need to aim for the head.
