If UNSC ships take several months for longer jumps then how close exactly to Earth was Delta Halo? You can argue 04 was the closest Halo due but what about 05? The Halos are supposed to be even spread across the galaxy yet the UNSC was able to get to both Alpha and Delta Halo very quickly. If it takes the UNSC a month to travel about 80 LY then that means both Halos were insanely close together. That doesn’t fit at all. If the Halo rings were evenly spaced it should have taken the In Amber Clad a few years to get to 05 if not a few decades. What the hell?

It took almost a month to the Pillar of Autumn to reach Installation 04 from Reach (near Earth). But it took the Dusk some weeks to reach 05 when they were travelling in a slipspace wake left by the Covenant carrier which “visited” New Mombasa… That wake made them travel faster, and that was a slower ship than the Autumn and it took the same or less time to reach the Halo construct, so I think 04 is closer to Earth
.
After all, the fastest UNSC ship would have needed some weeks to reach Onyx from Earth when a Covenant destroyer would only had needed some hours. If there hadn’t been any Slipspace wake, it would have taken them much more weeks.

Even then that is way too fast of a trip. Unless they were using a Forerunner ship they never would have gotten there in that amount of time.
As indicated by Ghosts of Onyx they did it in some weeks.
P.S.: Corrected my prior message, 04 would be closer.
The In Amber Clad didn’t fly to Delta Halo alone, it entered the Slipspace portal of a Covenant Capital ship which is many times faster than a Human ship. The ONI Prowler Dusk managed to catch them because they rode the Capital ship’s wake.

“They had been caught in the wake of the Covenant craft and accelerated to many times the maximum velocity of any UNSC ship in Slipspace. A lucky break. They’d have never caught it otherwise.”
I honestly like to assume that this map is fairly accurate;

That said, what the guy above me said. ^^

Interesting map but I would say that’s not even close to being accurate. UNSC Space is only a few hundred light years in diameter but that map makes it look like several thousand.

The Pillar of Autumn left Reach on August 30, and arrived at Installation 04 on September 19. That’s almost a month, and the distance to Alpha Halo in unknown.
Now, the only reason In Amber Clad made it to Installation 05 so quickly is because it piggy-back the jump made by the prophet of Regret.
> On the return, the Amber rode the wake of the Forerunner Dreadnought.
In Amber Clad never returned to Earth.

Right. Goddam, it’s too early to think. XP

How fast is Covenant Slipspace technology? How were they able to get there so fast?

I would have to say look up slipspace travel on Halopedia. The book “First Strike” offers insight as to why and how Covie ships are faster, and Halopedia will give further explanation.
The simple answer is this: Human slipspace drives “force” their way into slipspace, while Covie ships almost literally “slip” in.

also why won’t it go brown quicker
> OP, did some research for you. The difference is huge between UNSC slipspace and Covie slipspace…it almost seems too big a gap.
>
> UNSC Slipspace achieves approximately 2.625 light years per day…
>
> Covenant slipspace achieves a whooping 912 light years per day…
>
> We are literally like a snail compared with a gazelle. The Covies are travelling through slipspace about 400 times faster than we are…I think human slipspace needs to be canonically retconned to be about 200 light years per day or something!! And the Covie slipspace needs to be reduced to about 600 light years per day. It doesn’t make sense that we are only covering a mere 2.625 light years per day. It would take a UNSC ship 50,000 days to travel from one end of the galaxy to the other, or 137 years. I was expecting the UNSC to take about 30 or 40 years to cross the whole galaxy in slipspace, but 137??
Well Human space is only about a few hundred LY wide so it makes sense. However Covie speed is way too fast.
