As iv’e mentioned before, I want it similar too Halo 2’s. But that’s just me. What about all of you?
I don’t want it to be too Science-Fiction, I also do not want it to look like some fantasy game with armour pieces having spikes come out of them. As you said, I’d like to to be more like Halo 2, maybe even Halo: CE.

Exactly. I like the more dark, smokey, emotional titles of the series, Like Halo 2 and ODST. Btw, random but if the Halo theme can’t be remade a fourth time or if they just can’t use it period, they should use In Amber clad for the new theme. It’s beautiful, and would fit with the game I think. lol…had too say it sometime…but anyways, I’d like to see more short/cool cut-scenes, for example, when you activate the light bridge on the level “Halo” in Halo: Combat Evolved, a small cut-scene occurs. I’d like more of that.

So you guys want halo 4 to have original xbox graphics? I think its impossible to make it look like Halo 2’s art style, besides, they looked good THEN, not so much NOW

No no no, we don’t want the graphics the game had, just the art style.

…Do you know what Art direction is, sohn? It’s the feel of the game and the artwork used. For example, Halo 2 is very dark, human, and blazing. Halo Reach, is colourful, alien, and shining. It’s all about how we interpret the colors and polygons. Another example, Reach’s artwork LOOKED like artwork, while say, Halo 3’s, looked like the rest of the game. It’s all about looks and feel, it doesn’t have much to do with graphics. Although if they made a Halo game with “bad” graphics like Halo 2, I would probably nerdgasm. (I like bad graphics)
Halo 2/ODST, then Halo CEA, then Halo 3.
Less cartoony.
> Halo 2/ODST, then Halo CEA, then Halo 3.
That would be good. The darkness and lone wolf feel Halo 3: ODST gave us combined with the exploration and mystery Halo 2 and Halo: CE gave us would be a great combination for Halo 4.
In my opinion the art of halo has improved with each game along with the sandbox, I always use the new Anniversary map High Noon as an example of how amazing the environment is. 343i are using a modified version of the Sabre engine (the game engine that Reach used) so if they can improve on the art of Halo reach tat would be great.
Again using the Anniversary maps as an example. The amount of colour that is in them is great. Then their’s Forge world that has only a few colours and after a short time becomes boring. If anything like Forge World is in Halo 4 then I’m hoping its filled with colour.
I’m also going to use the Elites as another example even thought their is a strong possibility that they will have no involvement in Halo 4. So in Halo Reach the texturing on the Elite’s didn’t seem to have a lot of detail compared to 3. So if the Elites are in Halo 4 I would like to see them have more detail compared to Reach and maybe something along the lines of the Halo Wars Elite textures.
PS: It wouldn’t bother me if all of what I just said was in Halo 4 but the main thing “visually” I would like to see is colour.
halo 3/CEA. Those games were where the forerunner architecture looked its best, and considering we’ll be spending considerable time in forerunner environments, I think that’d be a plus.

I think you may have guessed correctly. The Master Chief is on a mysterious new world, and I don’t think he will have too much human contact. I am, however, partial to Halo 3s art style. I just loved how everything looked so beautiful and 3D. Vast landscapes, cathedral-like Forerunner structures, and so shiny!

Not to be a kurmudgen (the sound of the word says it all), but the Sabre 3D engine was only used for the remastered CE game, not the multiplayer maps. I do agree though, the new maps look great, and it really demonstrates how flexible the Reach engine is. Plus, and I might be wrong, but I think that I heard from somewhere that Halo 4 will use the Reach engine.
Vibrant and overall pleasant to look at! Its lighting engine needs to be on-par with Halo 3’s (Sierra 117, mind you). As well as decent shadows to fill the world with depth.
Tonally darker then Halo 3 and maybe more real, but not Reach real. It needs to inspire wonder while maintaining the more “mature” feel they’re going for it.
Also, heavy on the scale factor.

A modified Reach engine. Same framework, totally different visuals (Reach was a modified Halo 3 engine, for example).
Well, I can’t really comment on where I want the direction to go, because I feel we don’t know enough about the setting and the mood of Halo 4 to know what kind of art style it would be. The Halo Series has a great track record with the music and art style fitting (and setting) the tone of the game. Honestly, I think it will be similar to Halo: CE because it’s an “ancient threat” so I’m guessing it’s going to be that feeling of loneliness and mystery.
I want it to have very vibrant nature and very dead forerunner structure. Lots of greens, all blues are dark, lots of browns in the nature, basically everything I saw in the Concept Art Trailer was great. I want Forerunner styles we’ve never even fathomed before, to make it feel new and alien again.
Whatever fits the story. If it is a dark story, use a darker type of art direction.
If it is a happy story, or a exploration Forerunner thing, use a brighter one.
The Ark’s locations in Halo 3 (including the multiplayer maps) were, to me, the pinnacle of Halo art design.
There was a sense that you were in a massive, ancient, wondorous place - more so than any other Halo game, not to mention the huge environments. Go back and play the levels “The Ark” and “The Covenant”. The areas are enormous, and all the while you can see that incredibly huge ark in the skybox - go to the map “Isolation”, and look at the skybox from the top of the wall - The Ark looks huge.
If Halo 4 can have that same variety, colour and scale, then it’ll be awesome.
And remember, Reach was nowhere near it in any of those terms.
EDIT: Oh, and screw Forge World. The forerunner structures on it were nothing like Halo 3’s, being all plain silver as opposed to the gold, silver, brown and with all kinds of patterns and colours inside. Look at the glass in Halo 3 on any forerunner structure - it’s so much better than it is in Reach.
Get the people at Certain Affinity to work more of the magic they did with the Anniversary maps and I’ll be happy.
