So, this is something I’ve been mulling over since Naomi appeared in Halo: Glasslands. Basically, as the title states, where did Naomi come from? I have come the the conclusion that Naomi is part of Spartan Team Black, specifically, Black-II. Here’s how I came to this conclusion:
-
Naomi wasn’t at the Battle of Reach. This is an easy one to cover. All the Spartans who survived the Battle of Reach left the planet after meeting up with the survivors of the Battle of Installation 04. Obviously, Naomi wasn’t among them.
-
Naomi wasn’t one of the “washouts” who was later resuscitated. This is made evident by the fact that she though Serin-019 (Osman) was dead. As such, she was one of the 33 to have survived. It was stated in Halsey journal that the nature of the Spartans gathered at Reach was, to some degree, a lie. With this lee-way, it’s possible that some of the Spartans gathered for RED FLAG weren’t part of the original 33, and that some were “washouts” who were later resuscitated.
-
Naomi matches the description of Black-II. Both Naomi and Black-II are said to have blonde hair. This isn’t much of connection, but for me, it helps Naomi fit better into the established fiction. Add to that, we never knew the fate of Team Black, which gives a little room for this theory to work.
So, what get in the end is that Spartan Team BLACK survived their battle on Line Installation 1-4 (or at least Naomi did), and made it back to UNSC space some time before the end of the War. Naomi-010, aka Black-II, was later recruited by ONI for Kilo-5.
Now some may wonder why Naomi and Black-II have such different personalities. Naomi seems very closed in, while Black-II was described as light-hearted, having a sense of humor, and being quite inquisitive and curious. The reason for this would be that she only is as she is around other Spartans, notably Team Black. As she is thrust into a team of ODSTs and a former Spartan, she would likely close herself off, at least initially.
So, what does Waypoint think? Could I be on to something? Or is my theory complete bullocks?
