Where Are These Promised Dedicated Servers?

Since release this game has been riddled with bugs, as everyone is well aware. Yet closing in on 3 months after release and numerous patches, there are STILL bugs that affect the experience of playing this game.
These include:

  • No dedicated servers in Australia.- Being booted from games when loading the map in Matchmaking.- Incorrect stats on the Carnage Report. (Seriously how hard is it to get that right?)But the worst part is the fact that there is STILL no dedicated servers in Australia. This is just plain false advertising and I’m pretty sick of dealing with this ever since xbox one released. Titanfall was the only game I’ve played that actually delivered on this.

There are quite a few articles that say otherwise (like the IGN link below). But I know for certain that we are playing P2P.

The reason I know this is because of witnessing host migrations and inconsistent connections. If it was truly dedicated servers then even it there was a slight lag, it would at least be consistent across games. I am 1 hour out of Sydney (where the supposed azure server is) and a connection test form the settings app shows pings of 175ms latency.

When the Halo 5 beta started, I thought well at least this is made for dedicated servers so hopefully get to experience it . And yes, I believe it was dedicated servers… In the US. This meant that we went from having to do P2P to having to deal with serious ping delays on every game.

The forum below is based on this.

Bottom line is, I want a statement from 343 regarding when we are actually going to get dedicated servers.
I won’t be buying Halo 5 if they haven’t fixed this.

Am I the only one that is bothered by this?

Its ok, this hasn’t been the only time 343i lied to us.

You are most definitely not the only one.

However, to my knowledge the ping test from the ‘Detailed Network Statistics’ is not to any local server, it’s to an authentication server based in Seattle. So it’s basically a useless measure of latency.

Anyone in AUS pinged the AUS Azure data centres, since they’ve come online?

If you live outside of the US, 343/Microsoft doesn’t give a toss about you.

We Canadians normally get treated equally. Especially back when our dollar was better.

Being a gamer in Australia sucks for a multitude of reasons, and you guys have my sympathy.

Umm, we are not on dedicated servers in the U.S. either.

Up and running

Dedis are up and running but none of the halo games were made to run on them in the first place, so i’m sure there is some extra complication there. You are probably occasionally connecting to a dedicated server, but usually not.

I am inferring from the limited discussion about the next big update that this is one of the main issues they are trying to alleviate. That way they can take NAT settings out of the equation as far as connectivity goes.

Living on a giant continent-country-island with a limited population relative to its size certainly doesnt help… Most of your connections are either via trans-oceanic cables or satellite. Im pretty sure moving to the states or europe to play halo is out of the question so you might just be SOL…

Correction: If they already have your money 343/Microsoft doesn’t give a toss about you.

U.S. is still on peer to peer. Dedicated servers never materialized after 343’s “temporary” fall back of peer to peer (using the same multiplayer setup that was being used a decade ago.)

Oh really? This is a good thing, as it restores hope that they will come eventually.

I saw this in the update notes and just assumed that the US was sitting pretty.

Note: We’ve seen many inquiries about dedicated server support for Halo: The Master Chief Collection. Dedicated servers have been up and running since launch, and we continue to optimize and improve connectivity. The vast majority of games are being played on dedicated servers, but in the event that players cannot connect to a dedicated server, the lobby will stay together and the match will still occur on a peer-to-peer connection. Please be aware that you may connect to the dedicated server quickly enough that you won’t see the ‘connecting to dedicated server’ dialog. The absence of that dialog doesn’t mean that you’re not playing on a dedicated server

My apologies for my ignorance if this just another lie, most of the articles I have read suggested that “most games” are running on servers. I assumed therefore that that was the US.

I have heard this before, but wasn’t sure if this was valid at all. How did you find out about this? I just have seen no evidence that these new data centres even exist.
