In Halo 4 we go to the largest Forerunner structure discovered by the UNSC so far and yet so far we have seen no sign of ANY sentinels. Where are they? Aggressors, Assemblers, Constructors, Enforcers we haven’t seen any of them. Yet they were all over other smaller Forerunner structures we have been to in the past.
You could say “Well the sentinels were made to fight the Flood and there is no Flood in Halo 4!” Yes but SO WERE THE PROMETHEANS, you know the enemies in Halo 4? Even all the weapons they use were designed to fight the Flood 100,000 years before. Thats why they disintegrate.
So far the only sign we have seen of sentinels in Halo 4 is in this concept art.
It just makes no sense not to have them. Also if there are no sentinels that means no sentinel beam! The sole Forerunner weapon we have seen up until Halo 4.
When I first saw Requiem at the end of Halo 3 almost 5 years ago I expected to see GIANT flying Retriever and Guardian sentinels all over the place mixed in with tons of new ones.
The Sentinels we’re used to are more used for containment.
Requiem likely doesn’t have the same issues with containment as a Halo ring would have.
And, Requiem is quite different. The very fact that Promethean AI roam the land, makes this true. There is something on Requiem, and it is likely the Didact. If he is there, he would more likely have his Promethean AI guarding him than the standard Sentinels.

But sentinels were built to not only contain but combat the Flood in case of an outbreak if anything you most expect them to be at a place like Requiem a shield world created to protect against the Flood.
Most Sentinel variants were designed for containment. Like Spark said, they are used mainly to control small outbreaks.
On Installation 05, if the situation gets bigger, the Enforcers and more powerful Sentinels come out.
On Requiem, Promethean AI roam. These AI were made to efficiently and directly combat the Flood. If you have AI that are already more effective, whats the need for standard Sentinels. Not to mention standard Sentinels are likely a Builder creation, it wouldn’t be the first choice on a world a Promethean is on.
It would be cool to see Sentinels return, especially Enforcers, but I think the Prometheans are used instead of them. We might see Sentinels, but I think the Prometheans take that role now.
> Perhaps Requiem is made out of Sentinels like Oynx.
That would imply they have the unknown variant of Sentinel which isn’t a very good idea for in gameplay.
ot: Agreed it does ask a question who built it as the sentinels were multi purpose weren’t they? I mean they could fight flood then make repair’s etc etc.
Sentinels are on ALL Forerunner Installations, including Halos and Shield Worlds.
If I am not mistaken, Requiem is a Forerunner Installation, and in fact, a Shield World, so this must mean Sentinels are on Requiem.
Sentinels are designed to attack small Flood outbreaks. While the Prometheans can do a very much better job, Sentinels are also designed in repairs, in which none of the Prometheans we’ve seen do that. Requiem does need repairs sometimes, doesn’t it?
Unless someone messed up super bad in 343i, Sentinels are/must be in Halo 4/on Requiem.
Plus, I miss my Sentinel Beam! and the Sentinels overall!
Requiem isn’t like any Forerunner installation we’ve seen before.
The Didact is housed there, there are Prometheans AIs, the entrance is quite obvious (where most shield worlds had entrances that weren’t obvious at all, in fact it was rather difficult to know it was shield world at all), and Mendicant Bias sent John there of all places. If we see no sentinels then it would make sense.

question is: is he housed there or imprisoned there?

Isn’t he dead? He was destroyed along with the Ark.

He seems to be but he lived long enough to keep the portal open and redirect Master Chief where he wanted him to go.
If so, here is my theory/reasoning for lack of Sentinels.
Halo, where we see millions of Sentinels, was designed and built by The Master Builder.
The Shield Worlds were designed by the Didact, who didn’t like anything about the Halos. The Didact probably chose Promethean A.I because of this, and this also enforces the suggestion that the Didact is on Requiem, though we won’t know for sure until the next book
The Sentinels were constructed by the Forerunner’s Builder Caste, for everything from construction to security. The Builder’s constructed the Halo Rings, and therefore, their own Sentinels are incorporated there.
The Prothetheans on the other hand, are military grade, and the Shield Worlds were the Didect’s idea, and therefore it would be the Forerunner Warrior Caste’s own war machines there instead of the Builder’s more expendable Sentinels.

That almost works except the Dysons Sphere at Onyx was protected by a ridiculous amount of Sentinels which formed a Planet sized shell around it.
