Ok, so after reading yesterdays 2/2/12 Halo Bulletin I noticed this towards the bottom:
"The most noticeable changes will include those features seen exclusively on Bungie.net, such as rendered films, nameplates, and Halo: Reach API keys. Those features are not included in the transition, and we do not have plans to develop similar features at this time.
343’s focus for the near future is ensuring that the Halo: Reach experience is the best it can be, both in-game and on the web, expanding our Halo Waypoint services, and making Halo 4, which you can expect to hear more about in the not-so-distant future. We’re excited about continuing to evolve the Halo franchise, and we thank you for joining us on this ride."
Wait, what? No rendered films being included? That really is a huge huge shame. If its not included they will not be “ensuring that the Halo” Reach experience is the best it can be", not in the slightest.
What this means to me is they don’t want to use the servers to keep the cherished video that users spend lovingly making for youtube fails, highlights and machinima? This really is what I feared most in this transition to 343. They’ve been doing great with all things Halo thus far, this is a MAJOR step backwards in my opinion.
Now its a case of the Capture Card have’s and have not’s. Which is like saying rich kids and production companies only get to enjoy Halo video beyond their console.
Really disappointed about this.
Community. Have I missed something or is this exactly what’s going to happen? Anyone else share my severe disappointment in this decision? Thoughts?
They CURRENTLY have no plans to have support for it on Waypoint, as for those who use Rendered clips to make Machinimas were probably spending more money on Render Minutes than saving it for a Capture Card.
There is without doubt, a reason for the withdrawal of this feature, of which we do not know, to be honest, we don’t need to, all you need to know is it isn’t coming back.
Capture cards are a technical annoyance, so I’m not interested in the alternatives. This is what has made Halo so great above all other top games. Really disappointed.
Plus I’d much rather have my files at home on my computer (WMV) than have them compressed into something youtube likes, then in turn I have to download the lesser quality youtube version from them. I can also edit with them as I see fit from home better too. Ugh. Oh and the COD version is very limited and doesn’t give you the freedoms of length Halo 3 and Reach provided. Quite simply it wasn’t a broken system from the users end of it, so why change it? 720p Reach video has been great!

Likely because 343 don’t have the time or resources to re-code it, the Render system for Reach was Bungie’s custom code.
the major reason i was playin reach was for render videos. since 2 years ive been used to purchase for 30 bucks each months, (try to kill the unkillable noble team in the campaign, very funny scenes beating BOB the elite, tricks how to make each day challenges easy, killing sprees, truck jumps…)now that i know my videos are stock on an unknown format on my box, wow! and more you have videos in your file browser the more you wait each time you wanna check one… they really dont care about real haloers come on, put this feature back!!!
Since Bungie.net is no longer hosting any Halo files, where are they to be found on Halo Waypoint? I would like to access my file share online as well. Thanks.
For now they’re in your heart. Or just in game. They have claimed that you’ll be able to see fileshare online in the “summer”. So, looks like we’ll be waiting until anytime between June and September to get that access again. And it’s not even clear if they’ll be able to implement the stuff bungie had where you could click a download button, and then when you’re signed in on halo it’ll download the files for you.
But you can still tag files from within reach, and search by tags associated with files and/or the gamertag whose fileshare they are on, so not all is lost yet. Just convenience.

Alright, thanks for the info. It is a true shame though we will be that limited to our files until then. Oh well, I guess we had better put our faith into 343i for the summer.
You won’t be completely limited to your own files…I think bungie might still list the things that were already uploaded before today on their website. So you can see which gamertag has whatever you’re looking for, and then get on reach and search for that person and download the file. Or just try searching for random tags like “cool”, “awesome”, or “fun”…and maybe you’ll find a few worthwhile files.

I currently can’t access anything halo: Reach related on B.net.
