Where ARE The Bodies?

I was just replaying Halo: Combat Evolved when a I came upon a lifeboat in “Halo”. Nothing too special, until either my gunner or passenger marine spoke. He commented about the weapons and ammo on the ground, but then said “But where are the bodies, though?” I played for another minute (killing an Elite and Jackal) before coming here. This is really bugging me. Where are the bodies?

EDIT: I’m thinking it was supposed to be hinting at these lovely little things. Because they got cut, we’re left with missing bodies and a line that points it out. In fact, the fact that they were supposed to be in Halo: Combat Evolved supports this theory.

The problem with this is the fact that not only did they leave their gear behind (ammo and health kits), but the fact that you already knew that there was one more place. Maybe you’re right, but it seems like it might have been hinting at the Keelbug.
